Obituary for Theron Eugene Roundy

Theron E. Roundy passed away August 26, 2019 at his home in Nampa, Idaho. He was born June 1, 1945 in Tremonton, Utah, the third child of Lorenzo Vessey and Mae Louella Hansen Roundy. He spent his childhood growing up on dairy farms in Tremonton and Jerome, Idaho.
Theron attended Ricks College and Utah State University. He received a master’s degree from Utah State University and a doctorate degree from Purdue University. He spent his career developing corn hybrids, which led to several patents, and managing stations for three different seed companies in North Carolina and Nebraska. He enjoyed the work and its challenges; even family vacations would include a stop along the way to look at a test plot in a cornfield.
Theron married Kay Lynn Black on July 29, 1970 in the Logan Temple and they had three children. He loved his family very much and enjoyed spending time with them. He spent time working with them on projects, coaching their sports teams, telling jokes, and traveling with them. Theron was always there when they needed him.
Theron spent his lifetime serving others. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a proselyting missionary in the Scottish Mission, a service missionary at the Boise Bishop’s Storehouse, a branch president in North Carolina and Nebraska, and in a district presidency in Nebraska. He was also always looking for ways to help his neighbors, whether that was mowing a lawn, shoveling snow, or helping someone move.
Theron is survived by his wife, Kay Lynn; their children, Kirstin, Nanette, and Eric (Elizabeth) Roundy; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 11288 Roosevelt Avenue in Nampa with a viewing from 9:00 to 10:00 AM prior to the services. Burial services will be at 2:00 PM at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Theron requested that a contribution be made to the International Waldenstrom's Macroglobulinemia Foundation ( or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (
