Obituary for Rosie Irene Martin Peck

Rosie Irene Martin Peck was born August 18, 1930 to Henry and Rachel Thiel Martin in Paul, Idaho. She graduated in 1948 from Paul High School and attended the Nampa Business College from 1948-1949. While at a dance in Melba, Idaho located at the former IOOF Hall and now the Melba Historical museum, she met a tall farmer by the name of Donald W Peck. They married on September 23, 1949 in Rupert, Idaho. She and Donald resided in the Glendale area before purchasing the Kempthorne farm near Melba in 1957.
In 1964 she was asked by the Postmaster to join the Melba Post Office, where she worked in many positions and several towns over the years. She retired in 1995 as Postmaster of the Melba Post Office.
Rosie was involved for over 68 years in the American Legion Auxiliary holding all offices, but her most favorite activities were with Girls State and assisting the Veterans at the Boise Veterans home making poppies.
She was also active in the Walters Butte Grange, holding local and state offices for many years. Another of her favorite activities with the Grange was helping to make noodles, as a group, for the Melba Community Auction.
Involved in Melba’s “Old Tyme” 4th of July celebrations, she remembers being Secretary for the first year, but since then has been very active in many roles and was awarded Citizen of the Year, Grand Marshall and Spirit of Melba Awards.
As for her kids, she was very active in Boy Scouts, 4-H, FFA, any and all sports events. One of their fondest memories were when she made each of them a homemade angel food cake for their birthdays, even mailing one as far as Arizona. Another cooking memory that we hold dear is her snickerdoodle cookies!
Rosie was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Rachel Martin; her husband Donald W. Peck; and her sister Mae Linzy Bubel. She is survived by her children: Mike (Joyce), LaDawn and Nancy; her grandchildren: Amy, Casey, Andy, Michael; and her great-grandchildren: Jessi, Rayce, Zach, Brooklyn, Coltin and Kamden; a brother Leonard (Jan); and many nieces and nephews.
Donations may be made in her name to Melba Valley Senior Van Account, c/o Melba Senior Center, PO Box 144, Melba, Idaho 83641, or Melba Friends Church Youth Mexico Program, c/o Melba Friends Church, PO Box 116, Melba, Idaho 83641
