Obituary for Maxine Fonda Gillespie

On Saturday, Jan 5, 2019 Maxine Fonda Gillespie, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, friend and might we add best pinochle partner ever, passed from this life at the age of 92 years. Maxine will be forever remembered by all her family and friends. Maxine was preceded in death by her mother Visa Krammer Gandee; her father Ernest Gandee; her eldest son Ron Gillespie; son-in-law Kent Stevens; and her husband Miles of 65 years. Maxine was one of nine siblings; her only surviving sibling is her sister Joyce Haley of Yorktown, Texas. Also surviving are her children: Jerry, Mark, Penny Stevens, Carol Williams (Jerry), Linda Hardy (Rick) and Jay. Maxine loved all and spoke with much fondness of Julie Gillespie. Maxine has 20 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. Maxine was born in Sterling, Nebraska. She met her husband Miles in the Council, Idaho area. They were married in 1945 in Lovelock, Nevada. Much time was spent traveling in the military, being based and raising their children across the United States. Many good memories for Maxine came from her time in the Salinas, California area. Maxine and Miles moved to Idaho in 1960. Dad soon retired from the Air Force and Mom began waitressing. Mom was fondly recognized and often referred to as their favorite waitress at the Golden Star restaurant where she was employed for 16 years.
Maxine and Miles enjoyed building homes together, with Mom’s main role being designer and decorator. They also added to their talents, purchasing and remodeling motor homes and other RVs. Maxine and Miles spent many hours on the highway delivering RVs to dealerships. Maxine resided on Faye Lane in Nampa for 25 years before her final home at Karcher Estates in Nampa. Maxine will be remembered and celebrated for her extreme talents of sewing, crocheting, gardening, canning and quilting. Many of us were blessed to receive a hand-quilted blanket from Mom. Maxine was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Along with her husband, she also participated with the Pearl Harbor Survivors. She enjoyed bowling with friends and family at Meridian Lanes. Maxine, we are sure, is dealing up her pinochle cards and waiting on everyone!
Scheduled services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 11 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 607 W Locust Lane in Nampa with a viewing from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. prior to the services. Luncheon to follow in the cultural hall, with the burial at 2:00 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements by Zeyer Funeral Chapel, Nampa. 208-467-7300 Condolences may be expressed at
Those who desire may make donations in memory of Maxine Gillespie to the Alzheimer’s Association. Special thanks to all who cared for Maxine at Karcher Estates. Our family is truly grateful.
