Obituary for Gerald Campbell McMullin

Gerald Campbell McMullin, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away on November 10, 2019 in Caldwell, Idaho after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma (bone marrow cancer). He was 67 years old. Gerald (Jerry) was born in Tacoma, Washington to Wayne Pierce and Carroll Genevieve (Campbell) McMullin on July 1, 1952, the fifth of seven children. He was raised in Portland, Oregon. Jerry proudly served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mexico City, Mexico from 1971-1973. Upon his return, in a love-at-first-sight romance, he met his future wife, Connie Dee Casper. They were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 13, 1974, and were eventually blessed with eight children.

After serving as a Navy corpsman for four years, Jerry attended Weber State College in Ogden, Utah, graduating in 1986 with a BS in Geography. His work experience was varied, ranging from a top-ranked Naval medical officer recruiter, to exporting used clothing to Central and South America for his brothers' company, to a traveling seminar speaker.

The life work he most excelled at, however, was being a very tender, loving husband and father. He was adored and respected by his loved ones, and admired by friends and associates for his devotion to his family. He was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and as a disciple of Christ he was the real deal. He served in many church callings over the years, including as a bishop and as a worker in the Seattle, Washington Temple.

Jerry loved music and had a beautiful singing voice, blessing many ward choirs with his talent. He had an enviable green thumb, and at age 65 fulfilled a life-long dream of becoming a certified master gardener. He was gifted with his hands and was known in the family as Mr. Fix-it. Jerry was a dreamer and an optimist. He was gentle, warm, genuine and cheerful, and had a gift for showing love for others.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Connie; siblings: Jolayne (John) Eastman, Lynette (Larry) Clark, Phillip (Joy) McMullin, Nadene (David) Adams, and Wallace (Kim) McMullin; and by his eight children: Melodie (Matthew) Arave, Jana (David) Rice, Jeremy (Lara) McMullin, Christy (Jared) Nye, Karen (Daniel) Rains, Carol King, Matthew (Samantha) McMullin, and Michael (Trenna) McMullin; and by 33 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Carroll McMullin; and by his brother David Campbell McMullin.

His family wishes to express gratitude to the Caldwell Cancer Center and Treasure Valley Hospice for their skilled and compassionate care.
