Obituary

William Walter Schanz, 63, of Caldwell passed away March 17, 2023, after a hard fought battle with cancer. "Bill" was born November 4, 1959, in San Mateo, California to William Schanz and Magdalena Daros Schanz. He would be the oldest of two born in this family. Bill grew up in Santa Clara, California. He loved to race dirt bikes and going to rock concerts.

He was settled and lived in the Nampa Caldwell area. Bill worked as a machinist at Nemo Arms. He was an excellent computer programmer.

His real love was his hobby of racing cars. He spent a great amount of time at the Meridian Speedway and the Owyhee Motorcycle club. You could most times finding him around some kind of racing. He sponsored and was part of the pit crew for his granddaughter's race team at Meridian Speedway, as well as other racer teams. He just enjoyed every minute and every aspect of racing. He also loved spending time with his son and daughter-in-law and especially all his grandchildren and great-grands! It was said of Bill that he was an amazing dad and grandpa. His Friday dates with the grandkids will be missed!

Bill is survived by his son Jim and daughter-in-law Mallissa; five grandchildren: Lily, Jaymie, Tayvia (Jay), Kira (Jordan), and Kaleb; and two great-grandchildren Jaelynn and Kahliya. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

A public viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, March 22 at Zeyer Funeral Chapel. A private family service will be held at a later time.
