Wilburta Moore, formerly of Salt Lake City, died January 18, 2015 in an Ogden care center of natural causes. She was 87 years of age. Wilburta was born July 4, 1927 in Nampa, Idaho to William Corey Moore, Jr. and LaVon Lyons Moore. Her parents farmed in the area so she attended elementary schools in Happy Valley, Greenhurst, and Lakeview. She began High School in Marsing and graduated from Nampa High School in 1945. She continued her education at Brigham Young University where she majored and graduate in Education. She persisted toward her educational goals at the University of Utah and earned a Masters Degree in 1957. Later on she attended Florida State University where she did doctoral work before returning to teaching. Wilburta loved her family and made many sacrifices to aid in their support after the untimely death of her father in 1942. She not only sent herself to college but continued to provide monetary help for her Mother and younger brothers and sisters. She also loved, cared for, and gave much attention to her many nieces and nephews. They were the recipients of many dinners, trips to amusement parks, overnight accommodations, and ice cream treats. She always took time to talk, transport, and to listen to their adventures and for these kindnesses was loved and admired by all her family. She began her teaching career in Montpilier, Idaho but returned to Utah where she taught in the Jordan and Granite School Districts. Wilburta instructed special needs children for many years as well as trained Special Education teachers at the University of Utah and at the University of Montana in Billings. She was an outstanding Educator! In her many years of teaching she positively influenced the lives of countless special needs children and their parents as she taught and counseled them. Wilburta was active in professional organizations including the Council for Exceptional Children, the National Education Association, and the Utah Education Association. She worked as an educator for many years before retiring to use her intellectual abilities in other areas. She was a lifelong genealogist traveling across the USA, collaborating with others, and working numerous hours on family history. After retirement, Wilburta walked almost daily a few blocks to the Family History Center where she continued to do research. Wilburta's memory and knowledge of her family history amazed all who talked with her about it. Her tireless efforts provide a foundation of history for all of her family. Wilburta was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints assisting in the Sunday School and the Relief Society. She served diligently in behalf of the single adult program in her Salt Lake stake. She also served on the Mission Board in Montana and traveled hundreds of miles to help with conferences and training meetings. Her example of hard work, courage, determination, and kindness will be a continued strength to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her father William Corey Moore, Jr., mother LaVon Lyons Moore, brothers Wayne Thomas Moore, Ralph Lyons Moore, and a sister Verla Jean Hendrickson. She is survived by her brother Keith William Moore (Nadine) of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Dwight Corey Moore (Marlene) of North Ogden, Utah, sisters Cerita Hewett (Roger) of Crockett, Texas, Sharon Smith (Gordon) of Boise, Idaho and also a sister-in-law Gayle Moore of Nampa, Idaho and one uncle, Bryant O. Lyons of Ogden, Utah. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, January 24, at Zeyer Funeral Chapel. A viewing will be held at the chapel from 10 to 12 noon prior to the services. Burial will follow at the Kohlerlawn Cemetery in Nampa, Idaho.
