Obituary

Sarah Jean Cook, 21, was born in Boise, Idaho on March 12, 2002, to parents Cass (Jantz) Cook and Steve Cook. She passed away unexpectedly from an epileptic seizure at her home in Nampa on February 6, 2024. Her little Morkie, Romeo, was cradled by her side. Sarah graduated from Skyview High School in Nampa in 2021. She participated in the Education Assistant program at Columbia High School, earned Food Safety, CPR and First Aid certifications. Her high school teacher, Jennifer Krumm, recognized Sarah's unique talent for working with special education students, and offered her a position as a classroom assistant and mentor. She worked for the YMCA Afterschool Program and summer camps from April 2022 until her death. She never shied away from anyone who needed help. Her work ethic was deliberate, strong and appreciated. You could always find Sarah in one of her happy places … the kitchen. Whether she was mixing cookies, cupcakes or chopping vegetables for her famous chicken stir fry, you were always in for a delicious treat. She made a "Dessert of the Month" for the pump guys at Layne of Idaho which disappeared in minutes. She was very creative and enjoyed drawing, painting, and making gifts. Her mentor, Aunt Jodi, shared her sewing talents with Sarah, which manifested into quilts, pillows, blankets, and even soap. Her father's love of music translated into listening to classic rock and country music. Sarah shared her happiness by singing in the car or wherever she was. This led to the love of attending musical plays and concerts with her mom and friends. Gentle soul that she was, Sarah loved all animals and they took to her. She even liked creepy crawly snakes and lizards which made her mother cringe. As a child, Sarah tried to save the mice from her kitties. At five, she decided to catch her own mouse and gave him a safe home in a shoe box with grass and grain. Sarah was happily in charge of caring for the guinea pigs at school. Her biggest love was Romeo, whom she raised from puppyhood. Another happy place … spending time with her mom in the mountains near Cascade. Sarah liked real camping – not glamping – and preferred sleeping in a tent which she put up herself. She gathered, cut firewood, and started and tended every fire. Cooking s'mores over the campfire was her specialty. Sarah was an avid Idaho Steelheads Hockey fan, and attended nearly all of the home games with her mom and friends. She rooted for the Steelies by yelling, clapping and singing. Hockey fights brought her to her feet, especially when the gloves came off. Sarah cried this past Christmas when she received a Steelhead jersey with Moe's name on it. He shared the same name of her dad's best friend, Uncle Moe. Sarah's big smile and contagious laugh brought sunshine with her wherever she went. She knew just how to make others feel loved and special. We will always miss her positive energy and the fun we had when we were together. We were blessed to have 21 years and 11 months of Sarah's sunshine and love. Sarah is survived by her mom, Cass Cook; maternal grandparents, Lee and Hooty Holmes, and John and Myrna Jantz; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and her extended family at Layne of Idaho (aka the Pump Guys). She was pre-deceased by her father Steve Cook, and paternal grandparents Myron and Marjorie Cook.
