Obituary

Sandra Irene (Clays) Coon

Born Jan 1, 1950, in Twin Falls, Idaho.

Sandy went home to her Heavenly Father peacefully with her loving husband and daughters by her side on February 27, 2026, at her home in Nampa, Idaho.

Sandy is the first of seven children, born to LaVar and Edith English Clays. Her family moved to Southern California when she was 4 years old, and they lived in that area until they settled in Duarte, California.

She attended school at NorthView Jr. and Duarte High School. In high school is where she met her "Ray Baby," Raymond Lee Coon. They dated for a year and a half and then married in Las Vegas on July 24, 1966.

Ray and Sandy lived in Duarte, California, for 20 years before moving to Idaho in 1987 and calling this state HOME.

Sandy's first job was babysitting when she was around 13 years old. She would watch kids for one family, in particular. There was one summer where she earned enough money to buy the fabric to have her mom make her school clothes. In her early 30s, she worked at Auto Electric Car Co. with her mother-in-law, helping with the books so Sandy could take over while her mother-in-law went on vacation for 2 weeks. She worked for one year at a Montessori school to pay for Heather's tuition. She loved working at the Valley Craft Center in Azusa, California. This was her favorite place that she worked at. The greatest blessing was for her to be able to stay at home with her 3 children. Her husband was blessed to be able to provide everything that their family needed.

Hobbies: knitting and crocheting, and as an adult her favorite things were camping, swimming, and her cake business.

Memberships: lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; in the Cub Scouting Program, she served in every position from den leader to Cub Master and everything in between. Cub Scouts was her favorite thing she was ever involved in. Teaching in the nursery at church gave her joy and fulfillment. These children were ages 2-3, just before they went to the Sunbeam Class. The biggest highlight in her life was being sealed in the Los Angeles LDS Temple on May 12, 1976, to her Sweetheart and children for all time and eternity.

Sandy is survived by her husband, Raymond Lee Coon, and children: Raymond LaVar Coon (Chris Ann), Mary LaJean Coon Freeman (Roger), and Heather Leigh Coon (Jeramiah Smith). Siblings: Randy (Carol) Clays, Mary Ellen Clays, Elaine Clays, Thomas (Lorie) Clays, Laura Clays, and Cynthia Clays. Grandchildren: Timothy (Kenzie) Hartwell, Chace (Sidney) Hartwell, Raymond Justin Coon, Britney Hartwell, Chance (Mackinzie) Coon, Madison Smith, HaLeigh Smith, and Zoe Coon. Great-grandchildren: Caydence, Averie, Isaac, and Nathan.

Preceded in death by her second grandson, Raymond Jason Coon, and her parents, LaVar Clays and Edith English Clays.
