Ronald Douglas
Schiel
Jan 14, 1939 — Jun 7, 2026
In Loving Memory of Ronald Douglas Schiel Ronald Douglas Schiel, lovingly known to many as "Butchie," passed away on June 7, 2026, in Nampa, Idaho, at the age of 87. Ron was born on January 14, 1939, in Cleveland, Ohio, the youngest and third child of Otto Schiel and Barbara Doskocil Schiel. He spent most of his life in Cleveland, where he built a life centered on family, hard work, service, and the simple joys that brought him happiness. As a young boy, Ron experienced the heartbreaking loss of his mother when he was only 14 years old. Throughout his life, he remained grateful for the memories he shared with her, especially the time she spent teaching him how to bake. From her, he developed a lifelong love of baking and cooking, a gift he generously shared with family and friends. One of his favorite specialties was baking delicious kuchens, which became a treasured tradition for those who knew him. From his father, Ron learned another lifelong passion—fishing. Whether casting a line at a favorite fishing spot or sharing stories about the one that got away, fishing remained one of his greatest joys throughout his life. Ron attended John Adams High School in Cleveland through the eleventh grade. Determined to serve his country, he persuaded his father to sign the necessary release papers so he could join the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17. During his military service, he became a decorated sharpshooter, a distinction of which he was proud. Ron married Karen, and together they welcomed a daughter, Christine. Later, on January 12, 1963, he married Charlotte Ziska in Cleveland, Ohio. The two met at the Lakewood Stables, and together they shared many happy times camping, canoeing, and enjoying movies. Their marriage was blessed with five children. Though that marriage eventually ended, Ron continued to cherish the memories of the life they built together. He later married Wanda Schiel, with whom he remained devoted until her passing. A lover of sports from an early age, Ron played football during his high school years and remained a passionate sports fan throughout his life. He especially enjoyed baseball and was a loyal supporter of the Cleveland Indians. His love of football extended beyond the sidelines when he volunteered as coach of his son's football team. Under his leadership, the Junior Varsity team won a state championship, while his two daughters proudly served as the team's water girls. Ron was also an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, whether for deer, rabbits, or anything in between, and found peace and enjoyment in nature. Throughout his working years, he was known for his strong work ethic. He worked as a window washer for the Board of Education, as a parking attendant for AMCO, and at Lobs Bakery in Cleveland. Raised in the Catholic faith, Ron served as an altar boy during his youth. Faith, family, and tradition remained important influences throughout his life. Those who knew Ron best describe him as a giving, sentimental, and practical man. He was always willing to share wisdom, offer good advice, and lend a helping hand. Above all, he was fiercely protective of his children. No matter how old they became, Ron never stopped being their defender and champion. He also had a tender heart for animals and held a special affection for his beloved dogs and cats throughout the years. One of Ron's greatest joys was making holidays special. Family members fondly remember the delicious meals and baked goods he prepared, along with the festive decorations he carefully selected to brighten every celebration. His generosity and thoughtfulness helped create countless cherished memories for those he loved. Ron is survived by his children, Barbara (Ken) Hosey, Ron (Cindi) Schiel, Charlotte (Charlie) Dringle, and Ann Marie (Mike) Cline; and by his son-in-law, Bob Manista. He leaves behind many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Barbara Schiel; his brothers, Robert Schiel and Chuck Schiel; his son, Albert Otto Schiel; his daughter, Christine; and his wives, Karen, Charlotte Ziska Schiel, and Wanda Schiel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on June 15, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 11792 Linden Road, Caldwell, Idaho. Interment with military honors will take place at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery on June 25, 2026. Ron's life was marked by service, devotion to family, hard work, and a generous heart. His legacy lives on in the traditions he passed down, the lessons he taught, and the love he shared so freely. He will be remembered with love, gratitude, and affection by all who knew him.
