Roma Mae Hamrick was born in Buhl, Idaho, May 23rd, 1933 to Jerold and Melba Montgomery. She passed away peacefully at home February 16th. Roma was one of 10 children, and grew up on a farm in Ontario, OR, where she learned responsibility, to work, and to serve others. She graduated from Ontario High School where she was a majorette, and sang in the school choir. After graduating she attended Brigham Young University. She was accepted into their Opera program where she sang in many productions. A life-long learner, Roma believed in education and after raising her family she finished her degree in Social Work at Boise State University. Roma was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many leadership positions. She enjoyed working with the youth, and twice served as Relief Society President. She enjoyed writing and published several books, including a short story in the Children's Friend magazine entitled "The Most Beautiful Thing".
Roma was preceded in death by 3 husbands, Terry Story, James Whipple and John Hamrick. Roma and Terry had 5 children; Brendi, Angie, Pam, Sonni and Daven. She has 21 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Roma was known throughout her life for reaching out to and serving others, and for her wonderful sense of humor. Her family were the recipients of more than a few practical jokes through the years. In her later years Roma enjoyed gardening, caring for her large yard and spending time with family. She was very close to her sisters and Fridays were spent with them visiting thrift stores and stopping for fast food. She is survived by 2 sisters, and a brother and sister-in-law; Donna Warner, Jeannie and Jerry Evenson, and Joy Montgomery.
A celebration of life will be held February 28th at 11 am at the Marsing LDS Chapel at 215 3rd Ave W., Marsing, ID, 83639. The family can be greeted from 10 am to 10:45. Lunch will be served afterwards. Interment will be at the Hilltop Cemetary in Nyssa OR.
