Robert Hale Kotter, 93, passed away peacefully at his home in Nampa, Idaho, on September 11, 2026.

How do you put into words what a great brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend Robert was? He was an amazing man—kind, loving, hardworking, and always fun to be around. He had a way of making people laugh, and his love for his family was evident in everything he did.

Robert was born May 19, 1933, in Brigham City, Utah, to William Jensen Kotter and Almannie Hale Kotter. Almannie passed when Robert was very young. William remarried Olive Hale who raised Robert. Known as “Little Bobby,” he was the youngest of four children. He grew up working alongside his father on the family farm, developing a lifelong love of farming, ranching, cattle, wheat, hay, and the land.

Robert attended Box Elder High School and married the love of his life, Mary Jean Nuttall, on October 10, 1951, in the Logan Utah Temple. Together they shared nearly 75 years of marriage, raising their family and building a life centered on faith, hard work, love, laughter, and adventure. They lived in Brigham City, Utah; Portland, Oregon; North Powder, Oregon; before making their home in Nampa, Idaho.

Robert worked for John Deere Tractor Company before devoting his life to farming and ranching. He grew wheat and sugar beets and raised cattle. He took great pride in his work and was known by his family as one of the hardest-working men they knew.

A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Robert served in many leadership callings. His faith was an important part of his life, and he read the Book of Mormon many times.

Robert was known for his wonderful sense of humor, his teasing, and his unforgettable big grin. He enjoyed playing pool and cards, reading Louis L’Amour, and traveling with Mary Jean. His family will especially remember his strength, determination, laughter, and the many memories he created with them.

Robert is survived by his wife, Mary Jean Kotter; children Marian (Ross) Paskett, DeWayne Kotter, Jeanette (Brent) Thompson, Willa Mae (Henry) Medel, and Marnae (Richard) Holmes; 25 grandchildren; and 61 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sons, Dale Robert Kotter and Brian LaVar Kotter.

Robert was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. His faith, hard work, humor, strength, kindness, and love for his family will live on through the many generations he leaves behind. His family will forever be grateful for the life he lived, the example he set, and the countless memories he gave them.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 18, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 18486 Middleton Road, Nampa, Idaho.

Burial will be Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Brigham City Cemetery, 300 East 300 South, Brigham City, Utah.
