.Oron Luther Jacobs passed away May 27, 2026. He was born September 28, 1938, to Oron L. Jacobs and Ruth Lela (Shumaker) Jacobs in Johnstown, PA. On June 17, 1960, he married Mary Rachel Reckner of Jerome, PA. They were married for over 65 years and had three sons: Oron III (wife Alice), Douglas (wife Sunday), and Jared (wife Rachel), all of Washington. He was blessed with 7 grandsons, Oron, Caleb, Benjamin, Zachery, Kaden, Jacob, and Gabriel, and 5 great-grandchildren, Kohen, Emmett, Blake, Harper, and Allister. Oron is survived by one sister, Sara Geary of Maryland.
Oron was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Donna Lee Hudson, and two brothers Harry Jacobs and Alan Jacobs.
Oron served 10 years in the US Army. During his military time, he went to NCO Academy in Columbia, SC. Next, he studied Chemical Biological Radiological Warfare and Interrogation school in Kentucky.
His main accomplishments were his family and his career as a newspaperman (publisher). He was a scoutmaster and Little League coach while his sons were teenagers.
He went to J. B. J. High School in Boswell, PA, and graduated in 1956. After the military he began his career in the mailroom at the newspaper in Somerset, PA, and over the years advanced and retired as Publisher of the News Argus in Lewistown, MT. During his newspaper career, he attended computer school in Manchester, NH, and then became the computer systems operator for the West Virginia Newspaper Publishing Company in Morgantown, WV. After his children had grown, he and Rachel moved west to Redmond, WA. There he worked at Graphics Seattle. Then to Puyallup as production manager for the Pierce County Herald. The next move was to The Enterprise in Livingston, MT. Finally, he accepted a position as Publisher for the Lewistown News Argus in Lewistown, MT, where he worked until the age of 72.
After he retired, he and Rachel moved to Nampa, ID, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, square dancing, and bowling. He was also active at the Zion Lutheran Church as Elder and Usher.
A celebration of life will be held at the Zion Lutheran Church on June 20 at 11 A
