Obituary for Elsie Louise Stevens

Elsie “Louise” Stevens, age 90, of Nampa quietly passed away in her sleep on August 30, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on April 9, 1930, in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, the second of six children and the only daughter of William Callaway and Elsie Jewel (Johnson) Howerton. She was known to the family as Louise or “Sister”.
Louise married Darrol Joyce Warren on November 10, 1947, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Darrol was killed in November 1949 leaving Louise with their infant daughter, Darrolyn Diane. She married Dan Stevens on April 11, 1951, in Oceola, Arkansas, and the family grew to include another daughter and two sons. Dan was in the Air Force and the family lived in numerous locations across the United States including the Azores in Portugal. They moved to Nampa in 2010 to be closer to her family.
Louise leaves an indelible impression in her family of strong moral character, hard work and love. Her compassion and caring for her family and friends set an example for us all.
Louise is survived by her children: Darrolyn St. Hilaire of College Grove, Tennessee, Gary (Johnene) Stevens of Nampa, Danna (Gary) Zacharek of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania; brother Gerald Howerton of College Grove, Tennessee; 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 4 of her brothers; her husband in 2014; son James; and a granddaughter, Julie.
Interment will be at Canyon Hill Cemetery on September 2, 2020, under the direction of Zeyer Funeral Chapel. The family prefers any memorials be made to Nampa Church of Christ 53 N. Yale Street, Nampa, Idaho.
