Nola Louise Geier

January 24, 1931, to March 2, 2025

Nola Louise Geier passed away peacefully early Sunday morning on March 2nd, 2025. Nola had just celebrated her 94th birthday. She was born on January 24, 1931, at Samaritan Hospital in Nampa, Idaho, which is now the NNU fine arts building. Her parents were Frances Rose (Motzko) and Louis Charles Aulbach. She spent her early life roller skating with friends, coaching a girls' basketball team, and working at the Majestic movie theater.

She met her future husband, George Robert Geier, when she was fifteen. Two years later, the two married on November 20, 1948, and ten months later, they had the first of their seven children. By the time Nola was 25 years old, she had five children, all under school age. Nola remained married to George until he died in July of 2018. They missed their 70th anniversary by four months.

For all of those busy early years, Nola made sure the kids were clean, smartly dressed, and well-behaved at all times, but especially each week during Sunday mass, where she and George filled a full church pew with their growing family. Nola took pride in sewing the kids' clothes, ensuring all were well-fed with a home-cooked meal eaten together around the family table, and celebrating each birthday, graduation, and holiday with gusto. A new dress or suit for Easter and Christmas was a given, no matter how stretched the family finances. Christmas began shortly after Thanksgiving with Nola baking six or seven varieties of cookies and at least three varieties of candy and later filling the living room floor to the brim with presents from Mom, Dad, and Santa.

At age 40, with two little ones in grade school and three teenagers still in the house, Nola went back to school herself to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. She completed the licensed practical nurse program in 1971 that was offered by Mercy Hospital. She spent the next thirteen years working as a nurse at Mercy Hospital, where she was happiest if she could attend the newborns on the obstetrics ("OB") floor.

Nola and George spent many summers at their cabin in Donnelly fishing and enjoying cook-offs with their kids, four of whom had purchased adjoining properties. They also enjoyed traveling with their dear friends Doris and Weldon Young and later snowbirding in Arizona.

Nola was a strong and intensely independent woman. She is remembered for her generosity and kindness as well as her stubbornness and strength. Most of all, she is appreciated and sorely missed for the security she gave her children in knowing that there was always a place to come home to.

Nola is survived by her children: Connie Aman ("Leon"), George Robert "Bob" Geier, Jr. ("Sandy"), Patricia Geier, Pamela Dufoe, Judy Geier, and Jim Geier ("Nancy Fowler"); her grandchildren: Dale Aman, Jeremy Aman, Caleb Aman, Jeff Johnson, Jennifer Johnson, Sita Marion ("Doug"), Jessie DeWitt ("Mike"); her great-grandchildren: Danyelle Aman, Alyssa Aman, Michael Johnson, Kenneth Johnson, Mieka Johnson, Stetson Gilbert, Madison Gilbert; and her great-great-grandchildren: Zoie Irene Almeida, Brixton Brandon Sathre, as well as soon-to-be little Mila Mae.

Nola is greeted in heaven by her loving husband, George Robert Geier; her daughter, Linda Dianne Johnson; her son-in-law, Jimmy Lee Dufoe; her granddaughter, Cheryl Lee Dufoe; her parents, Frances and Louis Aulbach; and her siblings, Susan Rebecca Geier, Louis Phillip Aulbach, and William Richard Aulbach.

Nola's family expresses their deepest appreciation to Luna House and All-Care Hospice for the care and kindness they showed to her during her last days.

Friends and family are invited to a short reception in Nola's honor to be held at 9:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 13th, 2025, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, located at 510 W. Roosevelt Avenue, Nampa, Idaho. After mass, Nola's ashes will be interred with her husband at Mount Calvary Cemetery in a graveside ceremony.
