Michael David Pishl

After facing cancer with determination, positivity, humor, and grit, Michael David Pishl, our beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on June 25, 2026, at the age of 55.

Michael was born in Portland, Oregon, on March 12, 1971, to his mother, Kathryn, and was made an official Pishl when later adopted by his father, James. He was the oldest of three children.

Michael grew up in Orofino, Idaho, where he learned to love the beauty of Idaho’s mountains and rivers. Summers were spent along the Columbia River with his grandparents. His family later moved to Boise, where he graduated from Boise High School and attended Boise State University. As a high school student, he worked for many years at Albertsons.

While in high school, Michael discovered his love for art and, through this love, found his true vocation, which was to make things beautiful. Starting out with restoring and repairing antique furniture, he honed his skills to transform or create kitchen cabinets, any trim or molding made of wood, and eventually people’s homes as a remodeling contractor. He had a talent for seeing what could be and brought out the best versions of any project he worked on.

Before it was fashionable, and with the sounds of dial-up tones in every connection, he met Marcy Rueckert online, and they were married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in June of 2000. They were blessed with twin girls, Morgan and Madolyn, and they were the light of Michael’s life. How he loved his girls.

As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Michael held many callings to serve others, but his most cherished call to service was working with the youth of his ward, and he did this for most of his adult life.

Michael was a friend to everyone he met, and while his family didn’t always appreciate it, he had the gift of gab. He could make anyone feel at ease, from a small child to a seasoned adult—everyone knew how much he cared about them, and it didn’t take long for him to make friendships in any social situation he may have been in. Through his cancer diagnosis, Michael became involved with the Idaho 2 Fly organization and found so much enjoyment during his illness discovering fly fishing, finding peace in spending time outdoors, and connecting with other men with cancer.

Michael is survived by his wife, Marcy; daughters Morgan and Madolyn; parents Jim and Kathy; brother Adam (Trena); sister Amy (Jake) Thueson; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and nephews, who love Uncle Michael dearly.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with an open house to greet family and friends prior to services from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Northview Chapel, 6711 Northview St. in Boise. An interment, Dry Creek Cemetery.
