Max Clark Black Max Clark Black was born on July 2nd, 1936, in Delta, Utah, to William Ernest "Doc" Black and Ella Clark Black. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Friday, November 10th, 2023 in Boise, Idaho. Max graduated from Delta High School where he was active in football, track and student government. He attended Brigham Young University on a track scholarship for two years. He then served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southern States Mission. After his mission he attended the University of Utah and graduated in 1962. Max married his beautiful wife, Clydene Salmon, in June of 1961. They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary this past summer. Max and Clydene settled in the Salt Lake City area where he worked in the insurance industry and started their family with the birth of their two sons. The family moved to Boise, ID in 1968. Shortly after their move their family was completed with the birth of their daughter. Max continued to work in the insurance industry for the next 40 years which included starting and running his own insurance business. After his retirement Max decided to run for office in the Idaho State Legislature. He served the State of Idaho as an elected Representative in the Idaho State Legislature for 20 years. A friend came to visit the family this past week and shared this statement with them, "Max was a politician without being political." He loved the State of Idaho and serving its citizens to make Idaho a better place. Max had a great, lifelong passion for learning and history, and he had many hobbies and interests. He found joy in creating pens, trains, violins, boxes and really almost anything out of wood and giving his creations away or donating them for others to enjoy. Also, due to Clydene's obsession with all things Boise State he was a reserved fan and devoutly wore his blue and orange for her. They held season tickets for BSU football for 50 years and basketball for 37 years. Max spent his later years researching and writing a book about the notorious Diamond Field Jack. He loved giving tours and lectures on the subject of Diamond Field Jack as well as sharing his knowledge of Idaho history with 4th grade classrooms, visitors centers and other historical societies throughout the State of Idaho. Max was devoted to his family, his faith, his friends, his state and to anyone needing a helping hand. His influence, generosity, and knowledge will be greatly missed. Max was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Reveau Black and Bonnie Black Edwards, his brothers Keith Ernest Black and Shirl R Black, his brother-in-law Gordon Eugene Edwards and his sister-in-law Shari Lyn Draper Black as well as his nephews Robert Kim Black, Matthew Shirl Black and Gregory Dale Kehl. Max is survived by his wife Clydene Salmon Black, his children Jeffrey Clyde Black (Deanna Black), Gary Ernest Black (Kyra Burstedt Black), and Wendi Black Cleverly (Kyle G Cleverly). He is also survived by his sister-in-law Kathryn Black, his 9 grandchildren, granddaughter-in-law, grandson-in-law and 1 great granddaughter as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
