Obituary

Marvin James Laub passed away at 91 in Boise, Idaho, on January 18, 2026.

Marvin Laub, born on April 4, 1934, was the second son of Vasco Laub and Alta Lealett Anderson. Due to his father's wartime service, his early life involved frequent moves with his mother and brothers. They gathered many stories from across the country, including Ogden, Utah; Cheyenne, Wyoming; and Monrovia, California. He eventually graduated from Narimasu High School in Tokyo, Japan, in 1953, and later earned his teaching degree from Brigham Young University.

Marvin was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Carlene. He leaves behind a large and cherished family: his five children and their spouses, 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Marvin taught physical education and never stopped moving. He remodeled homes, coached, ran driver's ed for the school district and a side business, served as a scout aquatic director and scout executive, and worked as the Nampa High School athletic director. He was still giving driver's education tests on his 80th birthday.

Devoted to his country and community, he stayed active in his church and the American Legion. Throughout their marriage, he was a steadfast supporter of Carlene's daycare, wedding businesses, and many other ventures.

Marvin found great joy in serving others. He volunteered for many years alongside Carlene at the local family history center, and he remained active in the scouting community, working with his sons and many friends at Boy Scout Camporees.

Known for his quiet example of hard work and humility, Marvin was a calming and joyful presence in the lives of everyone around him. He supported Carlene, his children, and his grandchildren in all their varied adventures and interests. He enjoyed western novels and Garth Brooks, and he was a formidable checkers player who rarely lost a game.

His life was shaped by journeys: formative years moving around the country during the war as an "army brat," time in Japan, and the many roads he later traveled with Carlene. Their life together began with a Volkswagen Beetle driven from Los Angeles to Lake Louise, and he was never far from her after that. Whether visiting children and grandchildren across the country/globe or riding his ATV through the Owyhee mountains, he found beauty along the way, always eager for the next horizon. Those who loved him were lucky to share the journey and will miss his companionship on the road ahead.

All who knew and loved Marvin are invited to celebrate his life at an open house/viewing on January 29th from 5 to 8 pm at the Amity Building (2212 E Amity Ave, Nampa, ID 83686).
