Loris Arlene
Lords
d. Apr 5, 2025
Loris Arlene (Walters) Lords, 100, passed away peacefully at her home in Kuna, Idaho, on Saturday, April 5, 2025.
Loris was born on January 6, 1925, at home on 6th Street in Payette, Idaho, to Garland Clifford Walters and Mary Elizabeth Young Walters. The youngest of four children, she was an active and spirited child. At just four years old, she would ride her bike two blocks to visit her beloved Auntie Finskie and comb her hair. Always on the move, Loris brought energy and joy to those around her.
Despite early health challenges—including a bout of whooping cough at age five that led her father to set up a tent outside the house for her recovery and measles at age nine that had her mother darkening the windows to protect her eyes—Loris remained happy and full of life.
She graduated from Payette High School, where she was a cheerleader and involved in many school activities. It was in grade school that she first met Vernon Lester Lords. Although they lost touch when his family moved to Weiser, Idaho, they reconnected during Vernon's senior year. Their first date was marked by playful teasing from her brother Curt. Loris and Vernon were married on May 19, 1943, in Weiser. After Loris joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, they were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Together they raised four sons—Merlin, V. Rod, Curtis, and Chris. Loris loved her boys fiercely and welcomed everyone they brought home with open arms. Neighborhood kids always knew they'd be treated to her warm bread, gooey cinnamon rolls, and famous brown stone cake—a sweet reward they never forgot, and a tradition that carried on throughout her life.
Loris held several jobs over the years, but her favorite was driving a school bus for the Nyssa School District. She not only handled regular routes but also volunteered for extracurricular trips, including a memorable journey down the coast from Nyssa, Oregon, to San Francisco.
A woman of deep faith, Loris expressed her love for Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ by serving others. She was selfless, always thinking of others before herself. After Vernon's passing, she found purpose in temple service, completing four missions in the Washington D.C. Temple. Known to many simply as "Honey," her nickname was a reflection of the sweet, Christlike love she gave so freely.
Loris is survived by her sons: Merlin (Judie†) of Atlanta, ID; V. Rod (Pat) of Boise, ID; Curtis (Amanda) of Bella Vista, AR; and Chris (Susan) of Kuna, ID. She also leaves behind 22 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and many dear friends.
She was joyfully reunited in heaven with her parents; husband, Vernon; grandson, Greg; daughter-in-law, Judie; great-grandson, Kyle Ballard; great-great-grandson, Keaton Hansen; and countless loved ones who passed before her.
