Obituary

Lamoine McCashland, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away on December 23, 2024, five days short of his 88th birthday. He was born in Salt Lake City on December 28, 1936 to Naaman W. McCashland and Laurine M. Henstrom. He was raised and educated in Salt Lake City, graduating from East High School in 1955. In 1965 Lamoine graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor's degree in history. He completed a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Great Lakes Mission in 1959. Upon return, he married Ellen Borden in the Salt Lake City Temple on September 11, 1959. Together they raised five children; Mark (Trudy), Layton, UT; David (Trenna), Meridian, ID; Michael (Debbie), Driggs, ID; Ruth Ann, Boise, ID; Camille, Orlando, FL., and daughter-in law, Brenda Billman, Idaho Falls, ID. He was a member of the Utah National Guard and served on active duty during the Berlin Crisis. After graduation, he moved his family to Rigby, Idaho to teach seminary for several years. He worked in sales for many years before returning to employment with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a supervisor/trainer at Deseret Industries. He retired in 2001. He lived in Pocatello for 54 years before moving to Meridian, ID. He loved supporting his sons' athletic activities and could regularly be found on the baseball field or court. He served several years as president of Irving Baseball Field. Lamoine loved BYU Football, The Atlanta Braves, and the Utah Jazz. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many Church callings, including Teacher, Bishopric, High Counselor, Branch Presidency of the Pocatello Women's Prison and Cub Scout leader. He achieved his goal to be an 80-year-old Cub Master, having served in Webelos for 10 years. He had a life-long love for his violin and played in the Snake River Community Orchestra for 18 years, the Salvation Army Kettle Drive every Christmas for many years and entertained at assisted living homes. He was preceded in death by his parents, Naaman (Rusty) McCashland, Laurine Henstrom Knox, two brothers, Naaman and Stephen, one granddaughter, Alexis, and one great grandson, Spencer. He is survived by his wife Ellen of 65 years, his five children, eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. The family would like to recognize the staff of Ashley Manor-Highmont and White Oak Hospice for the kind, loving and companionate service to our husband and father. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, December 28, starting at 11:00 am at the Meridian 12th Ward located at 5855 N Ten Mile Rd., Meridian. A viewing will be held from 10:00 to 10:45 am at the same location. Funeral Services are under the direction of Zeyer Funeral Chapel.
