Obituary

Kristine Barnhill House passed away at St. Alphonsus Hospital on July 19, 2025, surrounded by family and friends. Kristine was born on August 19, 1952 in Nampa, Idaho to Albert Sylvester Barnhill and Beulah Vervene Loosli Barnhill. She was the youngest girl and the 6th out of 9 children, who remain extremely close to this day.

Kristine attended Nampa schools and while at Nampa High School was a flagster, on the swim team, and broke her arm playing powder puff football. After attending Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, Kristine worked at the Birdseye food plant where she met her husband Ronald House when she and her girlfriends threw rotting onions at the cute guys they worked with and one hit Ron. They were married on June 1, 1972.

Shortly afterward, Ron and Kristine bought their current house in Nampa with their infant daughter Annie and little sister Sarah on the way. They would add three more children to that home over the next 8 years – Samuel, Laura, and Daniel Albert. Kristine loved her children more than anything and was blessed to stay at home with them until her youngest began school. Kristine then embarked on a diverse career including as a substitute elementary teacher, working many years at Zilog, and at the Idaho State School and Hospital in Nampa.

Kristine was a lifelong and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and in her "spare" time volunteered as a Boy Scout Den leader, teacher in both Young Women's and Primary Children's organizations and on the Relief Society Activity Committee. As if that was not enough, Kristine filled her remaining hours with quilting, sewing, gardening, canning food, dehydrating anything and everything, camping, volleyball, swimming, and as Daniel Albert's chauffeur to the emergency room.

Kristine loved to travel and was always up for a trip to anywhere! In the summer following the death of her father in 1966, Kristine joined her mom and siblings on a months-long trip to the Mendenhall glacier near Auke Bay in Alaska. During that trip, Kristine witnessed a girl that fell down a cliff. As Kristine had learned first aid skills at a prior YW Girls Camp in Idaho, Kristine was able to offer medical assistance to the girl. The doctors at the hospital were impressed with her medical skills. With her children, however, Kristine felt a little dirt and tough love would heal everything, including broken arms that tended to go untreated for weeks to see if it was really broken before she took her kids to the doctor. When questioned about this, Kristine's response was "But you survived."

This trip to Alaska kicked off a lifelong love of embarking on new adventures to places far and wide including American Samoa, Hawaii, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Mexico, Caribbean, France, Holland, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Italy, Croatia (barely), Canada, numerous other states in the U.S., and the family's beloved camping spot, Frog Lake.

Kristine was a collector of Christmas trees, gingerbread men, and snowmen, and has a lifetime supply of Christmas wrapping paper. She has too much fabric to measure, an impressive collection of beloved muumuus, and loved to buy souvenirs and trinkets. Kristine loved her gaudy "bling."

Kristine was a master "snapper" and could snap her fingers to get any child's attention, no matter how far away they were. She loved to supervise her children's child labor while sitting on a 5-gallon bucket, snapping her fingers and giving instructions. While she was a strict mom when she was younger, she mellowed considerably as she got older and her parenting style was eventually "everything will work out; just love your kids." She had nicknames for everyone, which family will treasure forever.

There are many ways to describe Kristine including joyful, mischievous, competitive, fearless, and a "Pollyanna" who saw the bright side to everything. She had a great sense of humor (though some might say she was more cheesy than funny.) She was also a tough old broad who would give anyone the shirt off her back and often did. Kristine was empathetic and caring to those in need and was genuine in her service to others. She was a tireless caregiver to her extended family, caring for ailing aunts, uncles, cousins, and others in their time of need and end of life.

Kristine is now with her Father in Heaven preparing her family's eternal home. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Ronald Eugene House and her children, Aundrea Sue Hansen (Ryan); Sarah Jean House; Samuel Hollingsworth House (Mindy); Laura Jane Tui; Daniel Albert House (Karissa); her 11 cherished grandchildren; and 8 siblings, their spouses, and 50 nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her loving parents, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, and 2 sons-in-law.
