Katherine May (Fromm) Gifford, 89, of Caldwell, Idaho passed away peacefully at her home on September 3, 2023. She was born in Stirling, Alberta, Canada on May 23, 1934, to Hyrum Fromm and Ina Meldrum. She attended primary schools in Raymond, Alberta, Canada and later moved to Great Falls Montana, where she graduated from high school in 1952. She then attended BYU where she met and later married Leo Rural Gifford in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on June 23, 1953. Katherine's greatest joy and accomplishment was being a mom and grandmother. She raised her family in Idaho, Samoa, Washington, Arizona, Utah and back to Idaho as her husband's teaching assignments took them on new adventures. As her children began attending school she volunteered and later worked as a teacher's aide in the Salt Lake School District. She worked for many years at the Book Nook in Nampa Idaho and later she and Leo managed the store until their retirement. She happily served in a variety of callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints throughout her entire life. She and her husband served missions in the Boise Idaho LDS Temple for over 7 years, the Nampa Family History Center, the LDS Institute at Boise State and led an Addiction Recovery Group. She loved music, was an avid reader, and made many friends giving recommendations while working at the Book Nook. She loved baking and many of her family members share her love of banana bread with chocolate chips, cinnamon rolls, and rice krispy treats with peanut butter and chocolate. There was always enough food to feed another guest and a place to stay. Her love knew no bounds. She is survived by her children: Michael (Christine), Steven (Carla), Doug, David, Bruce (Barbara), Brent (Cindy), Mona (Jari), Kevin (Gayle), Melinda (Eric), foster daughters Ramona Arp-Ngatikaura and Amy Larsen; siblings: Donald (Sharon) Fromm , Roger (Mardelle) Fromm, Shirley (Robert)Krans, Hyla (Farrell) Olsen, Byron (Feather) Fromm, Mary (Steve) Lee , Hyrum Fromm, Rudy (Marlene) Gregovich, Richard Gregovich, Edward (Marty) Gregovich; 38 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Leo Rural Gifford; her parents, Hyrum Joseph Fromm and Ina Meldrum; her step parents Glenn Corbett, Dora Corbett and Cleo Fromm; and her siblings Carol Smith, Joseph Corbett, Gary Corbett, Joyce Corbett, and Harriett Bakly. The family extends a special thank you to Harrison's Hope hospice care for their kindness, compassion and grace as they cared for Katherine and our family for the past two years. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 8, 2023, in the Caldwell 13th Ward LDS Chapel, 5622 S. Montana Ave. in Caldwell. A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N. Midland Blvd. Nampa and on Friday at the church from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to services.
