Obituary

Jon Stephenson, 76, of Nampa passed away at his home Tuesday, May 21, 2019. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 PM, Saturday, June 1, 2019 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 18486 N. Middleton Road in Nampa, Idaho with a viewing from 11:15 to 12:15 prior to the services. Burial will follow the services at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens located off Highway 55 and Indiana Ave in Caldwell. Jon is the fifth son of Kenneth and Lillian Stephenson. He was born in McCall, Idaho on November 12, 1942. In 1948 the family moved to the family farm on Karcher Road east of Franklin Road. He attended Lone Tree Elementary School from first grade to ninth grad. It was a three room schoolhouse on Ustick Road. Then he went to Nampa High School graduating in 1961. He worked at the family owned Polar Bear Hamburger Place all through high school. When he turned 19 he went on a mission, serving in the Western States Mission for The Church. Jon joined the Air Force National Guard in 1968 and later joined the Army National Guard. He attended Ricks College, Boise State College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Boise State. He taught school for seven years, painted houses for 20 years and worked at Amalgamated Sugar Plant for 20 years. On August 25, 1972 he married Edith Bernard from Bountiful, Utah. They were married in the Salt Lake Utah LDS Temple. They were married for 47 years. Jon is survived by his wife Edith; his children: Shawn (Rachel), Roger (Jeni), Gary (Christy) and Susan (Todd) Hanson; 19 grandchildren; a brother Paul (Carrie) Stephenson; and sister Lynda (George) Overy. He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Lillian Stephenson; and brothers: Lyman, Don, and Glen Stephenson. Thank you to all who raised him.
