Joanne
Benson
d. Jan 6, 2025
Joanne E. Benson, 77, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025, in Nampa, Idaho. She was born on November 28, 1947, in Blackfoot, Idaho, to James Archibald Eldredge and Edna Willie Eldredge. Joanne grew up in Wapello and Moreland, Idaho, where she learned the value of hard work and responsibility at a young age while helping care for her family. She graduated from Snake River High School in 1966. On August 25, 1967, she married Edward Ray Benson, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on December 3, 1968. Together they built a life filled with love and devotion that spanned over 57 years. Joanne and Ed were blessed with two children: Ryan Edward, born February 7, 1972, and Brenda, who joined their family in December of 1977. Joanne dedicated herself to her family as a skilled homemaker—sewing clothes, preparing delicious meals, gardening, and canning. She occasionally worked part time jobs: including positions with the USDA potato test panel and Basic American Foods' research and development division. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Joanne served faithfully in many callings within the Relief Society, Primary, and Young Women's organizations. Her favorite role was serving as a stake missionary alongside her beloved husband. Joanne found joy in reading, tending to her flowers, adding to her vast collection recipes, and spending time with her family on trips to Disneyland or camping adventures. Joanne is survived by her husband Ed; her children Ryan (Catherine) Benson of Nampa, ID, and Brenda (Brian) Boran of Marshall, VA; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren (with one more expected soon); and her brothers Ken (Charla) Eldredge of Boise, ID, and Bob (Loretta) Eldredge of Pocatello, ID. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Rosemary Harding. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on January 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the Relief Society Room at the Kuna LDS Stake Center, 3305 W. Kuna Rd., Kuna, ID. Family and friends may gather a half hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Melba Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joanne's name to any LDS charity would be appreciated. Joanne's legacy of love and service will be cherished by all who knew her.
