Obituary

Jerry Len Hammer, "Mike" (a nick name given to him while in the air force), 85, of Nampa passed away Saturday, January 28, 2023. He was born February 3, 1937 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Leonard and Delsa Stewart Hammer. He was the only child from that union. He grew up in Idaho Falls. Attended grade school in Osgood and high school in Idaho falls. Every season he was up early to work on their farm and drive tractors and harvest potatoes.

Jerry served in the Air Force and for a time was stationed in McCord Air Force base in Washington. It was there that he met and married Mary A Robinett. Her stepdad was Jerry's boss. Mary's family invited Jerry to a Christmas party and that is how they met. The two of them loved to go to Jackpot. Everyday together for them was a special memory. Jerry loved and cherished his wife Mary more than anything in this world. Jerry constantly told his wife Mary Alice how much he loved her. He always loved when his sister in law Carol Stone would come visit and the three of them would take road trips to Jackpot, Nevada.

Being in the Air Force he traveled a lot between foreign countries. He served in the Air Force for 24 years. He was a Tech Sargent, and an air operations supervisor and airplane dispatch clerk. He served in Viet Nam twice and was exposed to Agent Orange and he suffered complications because of it.

He received an Air Medal from the Air Force for his excellent service.

Jerry enjoyed reading, John Wayne movies, John Deere tractors. He loved the outdoors and road trips. He especially loved visiting Germany. He was very strong willed. He loved to talk, he never knew a stranger, would share stories and what not with everyone. He never had a problem talking to people and he got a kick out of answering the phone in three different languages when telemarketers called.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Bishop David Hughes will be dedicating his grave.

Jerry is survived by his beloved wife Mary; and his dog Bandit (which he loved and took everywhere they went); a sister-in-law Carol (Jim) Stone; nephew Frank (Kim) Fontaine and their four children. He was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Delsa; and his dog Pooch.

Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, February 9, 2023, at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery located at 10100 Horseshoe Bend Road in Boise.
