Obituary

James R. Scott Sr. passed away from heart complications on June 3, 2024. James was born in Central City, Kentucky, on February 25th, 1944, to Allan and Norene Scott. He graduated from Central City High School in Kentucky in 1962. He joined the US Air Force right after high school ended. James met his future wife, Carole A. Fehrer, in Caldwell, ID, and married her on December 31st, 1966. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in June 1968, right before his first child, Debra, was born. James took a job with the United States Postal Service, where he started as a janitor. The USPS quickly discovered what an intelligent financial genius he was and sent him to BSU for accounting. He graduated in 1972 with a degree in accounting and became the Financial Director of the Western Region of the US shortly thereafter. He was a brilliant financial strategist and advised many post office financial divisions. When the USPS regrouped, he decided to retire early in 1992. One of his last jobs was driving school buses for Brown Bus Company, driving children to and from school every day for years, and he was given the Driver of the Year award. In October 2021, James and his wife, Carole, were both infected with COVID-19 and hospitalized. Carole passed away in November 2021 from COVID. James won the battle against COVID, but he never really felt better. His heart suffered from the death of the love of his life and the effects of COVID-19. James was an avid amateur HAM radio operator. He spent a lot of time chatting with people all over the world. James was in a group of local HAM operators and was always excited to check in and chat with his friends. He met with his local group of HAM operators and friends for breakfast as often as he could. After his wife passed, James would spend every evening with his family, binging shows and enjoying the company of his kids and grandchildren. James loved to read the Bible and had many different translations with which he would compare information. He always had a smile and encouraging words for everyone in his life. We miss him so very much!

James was preceded in death by his parents, Allan and Norene Scott; by his sisters, Melissa and Sue Scott; and by his wife, Carole Scott. He is survived by his children, Cynthia Palmer, Kevin Scott, Debra Scott, and James Scott Jr., all residing in Nampa, ID. He is survived by his siblings, Mack Scott, John T. Scott, Ann Mata, and Jenny Scott, from Muhlenberg County, KY.
