Jack
Larsen
Nov 17, 1927 — Jan 12, 2023
Sometimes Jack and sometimes "Bud" or "Buddy", his childhood nickname, Jack Theodore Larsen was born into the farming family of Martin and Nelly Leona (Stredder) Larsen in the depths of the Great Depression. He worked hard all his life, from his impoverished grade school years well into his 80's. He was a logger for the bigger paycheck and a cowboy for the love of it. A good provider, he worked to live and lived to work, instilling in all his kids a strong work ethic. He and Verla Mae Brannam met young, married young on July 8th 1946 and soon had a son, Ronald Allen. Bud always loved to tell stories about the old days, his own tale told to him by the old-timers of his younger years. Such as the time he and his then best friend Dave got lost deer hunting on horseback in a snowstorm, very nearly froze to death and completely missed the birth of his second child, Cindy Lou. As Grandpa Larsen hauled Verla off to the hospital he swore he was "going to kill that boy" for choosing fun over family but spared him after all, and three more sons were eventually added to the family: Jonny Dean, James Martin, and Cody Wynn (in order of birth, not necessarily intelligence). So many stories. Such as the time, when just a little kid, he and his brothers were sitting around the campfire with the "Basco" sheepherders sharing their hot peppers, tears streaming down their faces, mouths on fire, but not about to say "No Thanks" to genial Basque hospitality (nowadays called child abuse). Or the time he went to deliver supplies to a crotchety, half-crippled old codger caretaking in the ranch's back country. The fellow told him he could use some bacon, flour, sugar, meat, lard, and whiskey. Then he thought a minute and said, "Forget the bacon, flour, sugar, meat, and lard". Big game hunting and rodeo were his hobbies. A lot of people wintered over on venison provided by Jack Larsen and a lot of loops were thrown team roping at rodeos. He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and son Cody Wynn Larsen. He is survived by his spouse Verla Mae Larsen; sons Ron (spouse Tom), Jonny (spouse Karen), Jim (spouse Sarah), daughter Cindy (spouse Bob) and daughter in law Karin (Cody); nine grandchildren: Bobby, Windi, Shawn, Mackenzie, Cassie, Martin, Amber, Jaci, and Trent; eleven great-grandchildren: Josh, Olivia, Lily, Samantha, Kayla, Cody E., Jake Jr, Annie, Ava, Nora, Brittaney, and Breanna; and one great-great-grandchild Maddox.
