Jack Marion Hurren

Jack Marion Hurren passed away on June 28th at the age of 85 in Nampa, Idaho. He was born on January 13th, 1941, in Hyde Park, Utah. He was the fourth of six children born to David and Ruby Hurren, and they moved to Nampa when Jack was five years old.

He grew up on a dairy farm milking cows every morning and farming the hay fields with horses. He loved to hunt gophers and would go fishing every day when he got home from school.

In high school he joined the Future Farmers of America and showed his cattle at the fairs, winning many ribbons. He also was invited to judge fairs in other cities. He played football, basketball, softball, and the trumpet.

He attended Brigham Young University, Rick's College, and Boise State University. Over the years he worked for the BYU dairy farm, Albertsons, General Foods, Dairyman's Creamery, Global Seed Co., and a lot of farming in between.

Jack was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was called to serve a mission in New Zealand and was blessed with many miraculous experiences. Later Jack would serve as a financial clerk for many different wards and a stake presidency.

While working at Albertsons in Provo, he met Mary Ann, and they were married on July 20th, 1965, in the Idaho Falls temple. Julie was born in 1967, and Diana was born in 1968.

Jack loved gardening and eventually became a master gardener. In 1976 he and his family started to build a house in his father's hayfield. For the first few years they shared the home with mice, spiders, and crickets from the field. They ended up living there for 47 years.

Jack suffered his entire adult life with severe arthritis in his hands. Some jobs required carpentry, and once he had to quit a job because he couldn't hold on to his tools.

He loved animals, especially farm animals, and raised many horses, pigs, goats, cattle, ducks, geese, turkeys, chickens, rabbits, cats, and dogs.

Jack had his first heart attack when he was 36. Eventually he would need double bypass open-heart surgery and have 8 more heart attacks over the years. The last one took his life.

Jack is survived by his wife Mary Ann Hurren and his daughters Julie Christensen and Diana Urry. Also, his brother Harmon Hurren and many nieces and nephews. Jack's grandchildren are Jessica Milich, Kenton Goldthorpe, Katie Heitzman, Amy Goldthorpe, Eden Lyn, Taylor Ford, Madi Ford, Lucas Ford, and Georgia McCard-Urry, as well as 10 great grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held.

Family and friends are welcome to attend the luncheon to be held Thursday July 2, 2026, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 88 S Happy Valley Rd, Nampa, ID 83687
