Obituary for Gordon Lee Hansen
Gordon Lee Hansen, 83, passed away suddenly of natural causes on November 22, 2025, at his farm outside of New Plymouth, Idaho, tending his horse.
Gordon was born on January 15, 1942, at St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise, Idaho, to Charles Earl and Alta Lucille Lingel Hansen. Gordon was the third of four sons. Gordon grew up in the Treasure Valley and loved the outdoors, his horses, and farming.
For 32 years, he worked for the Idaho Transportation Department as a surveyor, always giving his best and taking pride in his work. He was instrumental in many significant highway projects within the Treasure Valley, including the Flying Y, the I-184 connector, and the Cole Road Interchange projects, to name just a few.
On March 30, 1963, Gordon married his high school sweetheart, Merita Diane Dougal. Together, they were blessed with four children: Kevin, Cheryl, Jeff (Kelley), and Angela (Gary) Glassing. Gordon deeply loved his family and was devoted to teaching them the importance of living honest, good lives, instilling in them the values of integrity, hard work, and treating others with respect and kindness.
Gordon's lifelong passion for farming was evident in the meticulous care he gave his home, land, horses, and cattle. He found joy in every aspect of the outdoors, especially during family camping trips and in life's simple pleasures like sharing a bowl of ice cream. Gordon was widely respected for his integrity, unwavering work ethic, and loyalty. Those who knew him—whether through friendship, work, or business—remember him as honest and trustworthy, believing that a man's word and a firm handshake were the true foundations of any agreement.
Gordon is survived by his wife of 62 years, Diane; son Jeff (Kelley); Angela (Gary) Glassing; 8 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. And numerous nieces and nephews.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents and his three brothers—Marvin, Loren, and Larry Hansen—as well as his son Kevin and daughter Cheryl.
