Obituary

Gary Frank Davidson, 83, passed away Monday, January 6, 2025, with family close by. His funeral will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 121 N Canyon Street, in Nampa, Idaho. Interred at Dry Creek Cemetery, Boise, Idaho on January 16, 2025. Gary was born July 5, 1941, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Joseph Frank Davidson Jr. and Dorothy Helen Mayhew. He is the oldest of 2 children. Throughout his life, he was very close with his sister Karen, whom he teased relentlessly.

Gary was raised in Salt Lake City; their home was on Redwood Road, which at the time was very rural. Gary's parents then moved to Boise, Idaho when he was about 10 years old. Gary loved hunting and was involved in sports, with a special love for baseball, playing for a minor league team for a time. Gary served in the Navy, in California, as a Seaman apprentice and then honorably discharged after 1 ½ years of service. Gary served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Gulf States Mission from 1961-1963. Gary met his future bride while he was serving his mission and after returning home, he began writing letters to Sharon and was eventually married and sealed to his dear wife, Sharon Deloris Welch in the Salt Lake Temple on September 1, 1965. Gary worked for many years in the food service industry, moving several times helping hospitals start-up their food service. Finally, in the Spring of 1980, Gary moved his family back "home" and lived in Nampa working for Minors RV as the Parts and Rental Manager . Gary devoted his life to serving in his ward and stake callings. He especially loved serving as a Bishop of the 6th Ward and working with the youth. Gary had a fun sense of humor, always making everyone feel comfortable. He was known to tease and joke with the youth, creating great, supportive relationships with them and those he associated with. One of his fondest memories was hiking the trails while on Trek at Martin's Cove with the Young Men and Young Women group and youth leaders of his ward. Near Gary's retirement years, Gary and Sharon served two service missions together, one at the Boise Idaho Temple and one for the addiction Recovery Program. Gary and Sharon had six children: Derek (Krysti) Davidson, Keri Lyn (Fred) King, Kathy (Patrick) Howard, Ann Marie Davidson (who only lived 3 days and one of Gary's most difficult days), Christopher (Crystal) Davidson, and Dawn Garren. They have 12 grandchildren, whom he loved dearly: Britney, Kraig, Kortney, Jeff, Nicholas, Marcus, Kodie Lyn, Tyler, Ainslee, Mackenzie, Joseph, and Ashlyn; eight and a half great-grandchildren: Abigail, Jackson, Hank, Maren, Lacey, Blake, Gavin, and Josie with one on the way. Gary always made a special point of staying current with each of his grandchildren's lives and their activities . Gary is preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Deloris Welch Davidson; Ann Marie Davidson (daughter), Joseph Frank Davidson Jr . and Dorothy Helen Mayhew Davidson (parents) and many sets of grandparents and extended family members. Gary will be sorely missed by his family, but he anxiously looked forward to the beautiful day that he would reunite with his dear wife, Sharon, daughter, Ann Marie, and his parents and sister . Gary's one piece of advice that he left his children and grandchildren was this: "Be happy. Things will work out if you are faithful. Do everything you can to stay true to the church."
