Obituary

Frederick Vinal Goodwin, 83, passed away on July 31, 2023, in his home in Nampa, Idaho. He was born January 28, 1940, in Los Angeles, CA, son of Vinal W. Goodwin and Barbara Boardway Goodwin. He had one younger brother, William C. (Bill) Goodwin. He attended David Starr Jordan High School, in Long Beach, CA, where he was part of the ROTC, and then Long Beach Technical College. He met Patricia L. Dillon (Goodwin) in High School, and they were married on March 23, 1963, in Long Beach, CA. They were later sealed in the Los Angeles Temple of The church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Fred became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints when he was 21 years old, and remained an active member serving in many capacities throughout his life in his Quorums, Wards, and Stakes. His favorite callings were those in the Boy Scouts of America, in which he enjoyed more than 35 years of service. He served in many troops as Cubmaster, Scout Leader, Scoutmaster, and in the Scouting Program as Roundtable Commissioner, on the Woodbadge Adult training Staff, and earned many awards including the Silver Beaver, Silver Moccasin, and the Scouting Award of Merit. Fred's father passed away when he was 17, and he had to work to support his family. He worked for the telephone company before he was married, and after marriage was part owner of a Ski Shop, and then owner of a Bike Shop. The remainder of his life was spent working in the technical field. He worked for Xerox in Utah, and Fishers in Idaho.!! He also volunteered for the Forest Falls Search & Rescue Team and the Green River, WY Sheriff's Department as a Deputy. He lived in Long Beach, CA, Forest Falls, CA, Flagstaff, AZ, Prescott, AZ, Green River, WY, Layton, UT, and Nampa, ID. After moving to Idaho, his wife of 40 years passed away. He met his current wife, Vicki Goodwin, shortly after and they were married on April 14, 2006. They were sealed in the Brigham City Utah Temple on January 4, 2013. Fred's family was his greatest joy. He loved being a father and grandfather. He is survived by his loving family: wife, Vicki Goodwin; son, Dustin V. (Jodi) Goodwin; daughters, Teresa L. (Ronicka) Goodwin, Lisa L. Gregerson, Melinda K. (David) Nelson, Diana (Chad) Schaffer, Denise (James) Newell; step-son, Mathew Malan; step-daughters: Alicia (Michael) Malan-Dudley, Erin (Nathan) Sommer, Nichelle (Steve) DePriman; 39 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia L. Goodwin. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 7, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 2212 E Amity Ave in Nampa with a viewing form 9 to 9:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment services will be held at 12:30 p.m. at Canyon Hill Cemetery, 2024 N Illinois Ave, in Caldwell, ID
