Edsel Russell
Trouten
d. Mar 27, 2025
Edsel Russell Trouten, age 90, passed away peacefully of natural causes on March 27, 2025, in Boise, Idaho. He was born on November 9, 1934, in Monroe, Michigan, to Lewis Trouten and Hazel M. Ford Trouten Schied. Edsel was the middle child of five siblings and grew up in Rockwood, Michigan, where he attended elementary and middle school. He went on to attend high school and college at Gods Bible School in Cincinnati, Ohio, where his love of learning led him to further his education, ultimately earning a master's degree from the Cincinnati Seminary. It was at Gods Bible College where Edsel met Alice Belcher. The two quickly fell in love and were married in August 1960. Edsel adored Alice, and they shared a fulfilling life together, gardening, serving others, and traveling. Their bond was unbreakable until Alice's passing in 2011, which left Edsel heartbroken. Several years later, Edsel met Beverly Hayes. Once again, he found love, and the two were married in June 2013. Edsel's face would light up whenever Beverly entered the room, a testament to the deep devotion he felt for her. Throughout his life, Edsel lived in several states, including Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Florida, and Idaho, each providing him with unique life experiences. He had a passion for flowers, especially show irises, some of which were worth as much as $100 per bulb. Edsel also enjoyed long drives in the country, vacations in northern Michigan, and even home remodeling. For Edsel, remodeling was more than just a hobby—it was a necessary skill. As a country minister, his salary was modest, so he would often purchase the least expensive house he could find and set to work transforming it to meet his family's needs. His son, Jack, often joined him on these projects. Although Jack didn't share his father's love of remodeling, Edsel taught him an invaluable lesson about the importance of hard work—a lesson that Jack continues to carry with him throughout his life. Fishing was another cherished activity for Edsel. Whenever time allowed, he would take Jack along on fishing trips, creating special memories that Jack will always treasure. Edsel was a minister for 55 years and a college professor for 10. He played a key role in establishing the Bible Methodist Connection of Churches and pastored ten churches throughout his career. His love of teaching led him to share his knowledge at Gods Bible School and Hobe Sound Bible College, and he had the opportunity to teach abroad, with his time in London being a particularly memorable experience. He also taught in Haiti and authored two books, a reflection of his lifelong passion for reading and learning. Edsel is survived by his wife, Beverly Trouten; his son, Jack (Debrah) Trouten; one brother, Harry Trouten; five grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel Schied and Lewis Trouten; his first wife, Alice Trouten; his siblings Shirley Slavens, Nola Shukait, Earl Trouten, and Harold Trouten; and grandsons Andrew R. Trouten and Jonathan R. Trouten. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Grace Bible Church, located at 1415 Lone Star Rd in Nampa, Idaho. Interment will be at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery.
