Dorothy Ferguson
Troughton
Aug 31, 1935 — Jan 26, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Loreen Ferguson Troughton on January 26, 2025, at the age of 89. A cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Dorothy's life was a testament to love, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family. Born on August 31, 1935 in a humble farmhouse near Fulton, Missouri, Dorothy was the daughter of William and Maude Ferguson. The Great Depression profoundly influenced her early life, prompting frequent moves which eventually led the family to Caldwell, Idaho, and then to a farm in Homedale, Idaho. Her childhood was a tapestry of small towns, from Anderson Ranch Dam, Idaho, to Adrian, Oregon, before the family settled in Kansas in 1951. Her education began in the rustic setting of Big Bend Grade School's two-room schoolhouse, later continuing in Adrian, Oregon's small rural high school. At the age of 14, Dorothy met Harold W. Troughton in Homedale, Idaho, setting the stage for a lifelong romance. They married in the fall of 1951, beginning a journey that took them from Fallon, Nevada, to their final home in Nampa, Idaho. Their love story spanned over half a century until Harold's passing in 2002. Now reunited, they rest together at Roswell Cemetery. Dorothy was the devoted mother of five children, survived by daughter Coral Troughton Walwer of Fruitland, Idaho, son Ronald Troughton of Fruitland, Idaho, and son Thomas (Akiko) Troughton of Nampa, Idaho. Her family extended to numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, each one her favorite. She had a special close friendship with her niece, Sandra Pierson of Nampa, and she loved all her nieces and nephews dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Cyrus Ferguson and Maude Belle McConnaughy; her doting grandfather, Charles Ferguson; brothers, Bill and Clarence Ferguson; son, Bob Troughton; daughter, Crystal Johannessen; and grandchildren Sydney Smith, Deneil McCoy, and Angel Johannessen. She was an avid traveler and camper, always eager to explore new places or revisit loved ones. Dorothy also embraced technology, staying connected through social platforms like Facebook and AOL, where she shared her life's joys and sorrows. Her culinary skills, particularly her famous pumpkin pies, were a highlight at family gatherings, and she maintained an active interest in world events, always ready with a thoughtful discussion. A viewing will be held from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm, Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N Midland Blvd Nampa, ID, followed by a funeral service. Graveside services will conclude at Roswell Cemetery, Roswell Rd and Canal Rd Parma, ID. Dorothy's memory will continue to be a source of comfort and warmth to all who were touched by her generous and loving spirit.
