Dixie Maxine Holladay Winston, beloved sister, mother, grandmother and friend quietly passed away at the age of 100 on November 16, 2018 in Nampa. She had just celebrated her 100th birthday. Dixie was born on October 13, 1918 to David Earl and Martha Loretta Ellsworth Holladay in Springlake, Utah. She was the 6th of 14 children. She came to Idaho with her family when she was one year old. She lived in Kuna and Nampa while growing up except for a brief time of living in Murray, Utah. She was a lady of many talents. She enjoyed music, sewing, quilting, crocheting, crafts and in her 50's she started painting. She made quilts for all of her children and grandsons and afghans for her daughters and granddaughters. Each of her children and grandchildren received a painting as well. She shared her paintings with her sister, nieces, nephews and friends. One of the highlights was when she received second place for one of her paintings at the Idaho State Fair. Dixie was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as Relief Society President, YW Mutual President and Primary President as well as many other callings. She served with her husband in the extraction program, in the Boise LDS Temple, and on a mission to the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvanian Mission. She had many part time jobs to help supplement the income while raising her children. Dixie met her husband Henry Edmond Winston in Boise, Idaho. They were married in Kuna, Idaho on July 3, 1937. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple for time and all eternity. She is survived by five children: Sheila Kirkman of Nampa, Norene (Martin) Thorne of Nampa, Lynett (Craig) Thurgood of Blackfoot, John Winston of Nampa, Charles (Wendy Ann) of Nampa; one sister Ruby Johnson of Roosevelt, Utah; one brother Glen Holladay of Las Vegas, Nevada. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; five brothers: Parnell, Joe, Lamar, Vernal and Jack; six sisters: Vidella, Lilie, Verna, Pearl, Marjorie and Donna Jean; one son-in-law Kent Kirkman; and one daughter-in-law Wendy Joy. We want to give a special thank you to Streamside Assisted Living and Keystone Hospice for all of the love and care that was given to our mother. We are forever grateful. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the missionary or humanitarian fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 1 at the Nampa 6th Ward LDS Chapel located at 121 N. Canyon in Nampa. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, November 30 at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N Midland Blvd, Nampa and again at the church from 9 to 9:45 a.m. prior to the services.
