David Gary Behunin was born on January 9, 1963 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Garry J and Lynda Heath Behunin. He passed away at his home in Boise, Idaho of natural causes on September 7, 2026.

David was the second of five children. He was a very active, athletic and academic and loved the outdoors and his family and friends. He grew up in Bountiful, Utah, Great Neck, New York and Eagle, Idaho. He attended Tolman Elementary in Bountiful, Utah, Eagle Elementary in Eagle, Idaho, Lowell Scott Junior High in Meridian, Idaho and Meridian High School in Meridian, Idaho. He graduated from Meridian High in 1981 and attended Boise State University.

David excelled in sports, especially baseball and football, which he played from little league until High School. David was a strong team member who was named to the all-metro and second team all-state in football his senior year of High School.

David was dedicated to the jobs he held as he grew up. He worked on a mink ranch, in corn, mint, potato and strawberry fields and as an umpire beginning in his ninth grade year.

David was an Eagle Scout who earned many merit badges above and beyond what was necessary for the rank of Eagle. He mentored many scouts and served as a leader for several years. Above all, he exemplified the scouting ideals, always performing good turns daily and serving in the community.

David served a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Louisville, Kentucky mission. Upon his return, he continued his studies while working at Hewlett Packard. He received a bachelor’s degree from George Fox University in Engineering Management and spent 25 years at Hewlett-Packard managing product support costs and field problems.

David met and fell in love with his wife, Valeen Crow, at the Boise State University Institute of Religion. They loved being in nature, taking pictures and being with friends and family. They were married in the Boise, Idaho Temple in 1998 and spent their lives giving of their time to others and faithfully fulfilling assignments in church.

David loved his family very much and Valeen was the love and light of his life. He was a wonderful uncle and served as a second dad to his nieces and nephews. He watched their games, fixed their bikes, guided their scouting efforts, took them on outings, taught them how to garden and take photographs and helped with science projects. He was close with his brothers and sisters, extended family members and many friends. He served others with his amazing building skills, fixed others’ cars and built bicycles for missionaries and others in need. He created ramps for those who could not use stairs, he spent many volunteer hours at the Ada County Jail and he looked for the backstory in everybody he met, so that he could see them with compassionate eyes. He was an exemplary role model and loyal servant of our Savior Jesus Christ.

David was preceded in death by his mother Lynda Heath Behunin and his brother Robert Behunin. He was survived by his wife, Valeen Crow Behunin, his father Garry J Behunin, his sister Karen (Patrick) DeMara, his sister Laurie (Doug) Maus, his brother Tim and his sister-in-law Cindy Stalensky. Additionally he was survived by sixteen nieces and nephews, Hunter, Megan, Paige (Dustin), Cameron (Melody), Kelly-Sue, Will (Jessica), Erin, Hailee (Peter), Max, Heath, Connor, Brette (Chris), Brooke, Garret, Emma and Jack, many great nieces and nephews, cousins and numerous friends.

Remember David by looking at the needs of others, serving the underserved, doing a good turn daily, photographing nature and sharing your God-given skills freely.
