David O. Badger
March 15, 1939 – October 10, 2026 David O. Badger passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, October 10, 2026, in Nampa, Idaho.

David was born on March 15, 1939, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Philip J. and Margaret N. Badger. After moving to Boise as a young child, he grew up in the area and attended Boise High School, where his speed and athleticism truly shone. He was a proud member of the state track champioship team, winning gold in the 100 and as the anchor of the 880 relay. He proudly carried this legacy forward, famously remaining undefeated in foot races against any of his children or grandchildren. David loved sports of all kinds, coaching youth softball, and officiating softball, and high school basketball until he was 65 years old. For decades, he faithfully attended the Idaho State track meet every year to see if anyone had beaten his record, a tradition he kept until declining health made it impossible.

In 1962, David married Mary McHaley, and together they welcomed their daughter, Katie. Though they later divorced in 1967, David soon met the love of his life, Bonnie Warnick Wuthrich. They were married on September 9, 1969, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple, blending their families with Bonnie’s daughter, Jennifer, who was the same age as Katie. Together, David and Bonnie were blessed with three sons: Ryan, Steven, and Daniel.

A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, David raised his family in the Nampa 2nd Ward. Over the years, he served faithfully in many capacities, including as Bishop from 1979 to 1984. Of all his church callings, his absolute favorite was leading the Cub Scouts alongside Bonnie for over ten years.

He was very community minded. He proudly served as member and then chairman of the Nampa school board during the 1980's and 90's.

David loved to laugh and always had a joke ready for any occasion. A true friend to all, he never met a stranger. If he ever learned that someone didn't have a place to go for the holidays, he warmly brought them home to join his family around the table.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Bonnie; his children, Katie (Rob) Hegstrom, Jennifer Gunoe, Ryan (Angie) Badger, Steven (Heather) Badger, and Daniel (Stephanie) Badger; as well as 22 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Margaret; all of his siblings, Stephen, Merilee, Phillip, and Paul; and his son-in-law, Allen Gunoe.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Tina Foster for her tender care of David at home, where she truly loved him and brought out his good-natured humor. Heartfelt thanks are also extended to the staff at Sunny Ridge Care Center and White Oak Hospice for their gentle care during his final days.
