Clydene Salmon
Black
d. Apr 12, 2025
Clydene Salmon Black was born on October 14, 1941, in Coalville, Utah, to Clyde Leo Salmon and Ellen Wheaton Salmon. She passed away peacefully at home in the care of her family on Saturday, April 12, 2025, in Boise, Idaho.
Clydene's early childhood in Coalville was challenging as she endured several childhood illnesses, including rheumatic fever, which severely limited her activity as a child. Clydene graduated from North Summit High School, where she was the yearbook editor and a member of student government. She loved to be involved and took pride in the things she did in high school, including being a member of the prom committee. Clydene went on to attend and graduate from LDS Business College.
The summer following her high school graduation, she met and fell in love with Max Clark Black. Clydene and Max were married in the Salt Lake City Temple for time and all eternity on June 29, 1961. Max and Clydene settled in the Salt Lake City area, where Clydene began her first job working for the Hercules Power Company. While living in Salt Lake, Max and Clydene welcomed their two sons, Jeff and Gary, into the family. They moved to Boise, Idaho, in 1968 and shortly thereafter welcomed their daughter, Wendi, to the family.
Clydene's greatest joy was being a mother. She was avidly involved in all her children's activities and was committed to making sure her children could explore all that life had to offer. For her children, that meant sports, music, dance, and time with friends. While her children were in school, Clydene was a homeroom mom, PTA president, and the Capital Golden Girls Mothers President. She was the first one there, the last one to leave, and the one cheering the loudest.
Clydene had many lifelong hobbies. She loved tole painting, quilting, sewing, gardening, scrapbooking, cooking, canning, and making her home a gathering place for family and friends. Holidays were very special to her, and she always went above and beyond to make them special for everyone. From decorations to gifts to food, she always made sure everyone had their favorite thing. Clydene was the number one Boise State football and basketball fan. She rarely missed a game, whether it was on TV or in person.
As her children got older, Clydene started to volunteer in the public schools in the lunchroom, in classrooms, and in other places where there were needs. She eventually took a position as a paraprofessional in a special needs classroom. She worked with autistic children for 20+ years—some of whom are still in contact with her. Her ability to show love and patience for these students endeared her to them and their families. While Max served as state representative, Clydene participated in the Legisladies organization and served as its president for two years. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and was an active member of the Goddard Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many different callings, her favorite being a primary teacher with her husband, Max.
Clydene's grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her much joy. She had a unique and special bond with each one of them. Her example has been very influential in who they are becoming.
Clydene was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband, Max. Clydene is survived by her children Jeffrey Clyde Black (Deanna), Gary Ernest Black (Kyra), and Wendi Black Cleverly (Kyle) and her sister-in-law Kathryn Black. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two granddaughters-in-law, a grandson-in-law, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
