Cindy
Davenport
Apr 14, 1949 — Jan 12, 2026
Cindy Davenport, 76, passed away peacefully at her home in Nampa, Idaho, on January 12, 2026, following a lengthy struggle with dementia.
Born Cindy Ann James on April 14, 1949, in Magrath, Alberta, Canada, she was the eldest of three children born to Henry Lowell James and LaMona Bascom. While Cindy was still a toddler, the family moved to Ontario, California. A spirited and talented young woman, Cindy was a good student, played the cello in the orchestra, participated in plays, and played on the high school basketball team. She graduated from Chaffey High School in 1967 before continuing her education at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
It was in her home ward in California where she first met a tall, handsome missionary from Idaho, Lynn Davenport. The two reconnected at BYU and were sealed for time and eternity in the Los Angeles Temple on June 8, 1968. Their life together began with a unique adventure: a summer-long honeymoon spent in a private oasis atop a fire lookout tower on Sheep Mountain, Oregon.
Cindy and Lynn eventually settled in Idaho to raise their family. Cindy was the heartbeat of her home, first in Caldwell and later in Nampa, with a three-year chapter in Vernal, Utah. As a mother to Rebecca, Robert, Melissa, Jessica, Sara, and Dessa, she was her children's fiercest advocate and most enthusiastic cheerleader, never missing an opportunity to support their many activities.
Professionally, Cindy was a staple in the local school system, serving as an administrative assistant at several elementary schools before retiring from South Middle School. However, she was perhaps most recognized on the court. Cindy spent 38 years officiating volleyball, earning a reputation for fairness and excellence that was respected across Idaho and neighboring states.
A devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Cindy spent her life lifting others. She served in numerous leadership roles, including Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society President. To many, she was the beloved "Sister Friendly." Her heart belonged most to the Young Women's program and the weeks spent at Girls Camp.
Cindy was preceded in death by her son, Robert Lowell Davenport, and her parents.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Lynn Austin Davenport; her children and their spouses: Rebecca Lyn (John Hyde), Melissa Jean (Nick Vance), Jessica LaPreal (Robert Mortensen), Sara (Michael Epling), and Dessa Mae (Matthew Clark); her brother, Tracy James (Benay); and her sister, Karey McDonald. Her legacy of love continues through her 21 grandchildren, their spouses, and eight great-grandchildren.
Special thanks to First Choice Hospice for their tender care of Cindy over the last few months.
The funeral will be held at the Nampa 39th Ward chapel under the direction of Bishop David Nelson. Address: 607 W Locust Ln, Nampa, ID 83686 Family Receiving Line: 10-10:45am Funeral Service: 11am
