Charles Myers
Walker
d. Apr 18, 2025
Surrounded by his family, our beloved dad, husband, son, grandpa, and great-grandpa returned to our loving Heavenly Father on April 18, 2025, at St. Luke's Hospital in Boise, Idaho. The strength and faith he exhibited as he fought to hold on are an example to all of us. He always said the mind was willing, but his body had other ideas. Charles Myers Walker was born April 11, 1942, in Mt. Sterling, Utah, to Morris Clark Walker and Sylvia Maye Myers. He grew up surrounded by love, with three sisters and four brothers, Charlie being the youngest. He attended Cache County schools and graduated from South Cache High School. The summer after Charles graduated was the turning point in his life. He had already signed up for the Air Force when he met Maxine Carter Thorpe, the love of his life. Charles and his cousin were baling hay for Lyman. Maxine was such a wonderful distraction that they only bailed one out of the five loads. Two and a half years later, they married, and later were sealed in the Oakland Temple, December 22, 1980. June 18, 2025, they celebrated their 62nd anniversary. Charles loved to go fishing and camping with his family and friends. Large tents were raised and fires were built, but most of all, he took his rod and reel and traveled up and down the river fly-fishing amongst the Shasta mountains and the Wasatch mountains. The trees and rivers gave Charles the freedom he used to enjoy as a boy fishing and hiking until the sun went down. Charles loved working with wood. His ten-foot white moose was stunning every Christmas, standing in the front yard for all to see, surrounded by a mother and two calves. These amazing creations were joined with Santa's village and working elves. In the autumn, fall creations were brought out: pumpkins, ghosts, and witches. If Maxine could dream it up, Charles built it. Cabinets in the garage, patios in the back, and special treasure chests throughout the house. A cherished well stands in front of Charles' daughter's home, JoAnn, created for her from a simple picture. Charles was a devoted son, a loving father to four children, a loving grandfather to 14 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Charles dedicated his life to his loved ones. He worked hard to provide, he took trips to visit his family and siblings, and encouraged his family to do the same. He was often heard saying that he needed to see a sister or a brother. Charles served those around him; all you had to do was ask. Charles had a beautiful talent for cooking. He blessed his family with a myriad of concoctions, soups, BBQs, and pancakes. He blessed the community as he cooked for Costco. His donut shop was the best in all of Northern Idaho, from bear claws to Texas donuts. Up all night making hundreds of pastries and then creating lasting friendships with all those he met. Above all, Charles was a faithful and devoted follower of Jesus Christ. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many church callings. He taught his children to love their Savior and to love one another. He was a faithful and devoted member of the Air Force and taught his family to be proud and respectful of the wonderful country we live in. The flag was raised, the prayers were said, the parades were attended, and the respect was strong. Charles loved God, his wife, his family, and his country.
