Obituary

Charles Russell Frakes passed away on November 15th, 2024, in Meridian, Idaho. Charles, who went by the name Russ, was born to Charles S. Frakes and Beatrice V. O'Neil on July 24, 1935, in Haines City, Florida, being the oldest of six children. Russ grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana with his family. He had a love for basketball that started in his early years. He was proud to have lettered in basketball while he attended Ben Davis High. He also enjoyed a good game of pinball and selling newspapers to fans going to Indy 500 while working as a steward at Indianapolis 500. Russ was married to Judy Mae Wilson on July 27, 1957, at Lynhurst Baptist Church. They had been married for 51 years. Russ and Judy met at a Ben Davis High School basketball game. She was going up the stairs and he would not let her pass until she gave him her phone number. Russ lived in Indianapolis and Brownsburg, Indiana; the Bay Area in California; and Nampa and Meridian, Idaho. Russ and Judy raised 5 children. Russ worked many jobs, and sometimes multiple jobs at the same time, including being an auto mechanic, a custodian, being a volunteer at the fire department, service writer, Education Support at Birch elementary, and coached basketball, which he followed and supported thousands of kids through Vallivue School District. Russ also served as President of Lazy Daisy Good Sam Club. Russ served as a Deacon, and youth pastor at First Baptist Church of Hayward. Russ had a sense of humor, was a loyal fan, he was hardworking, caring, and the brightest light especially in the gym. Russ was voted as #1 fan at Vallivue & Ridgevue sporting events by students & players. Russ is survived by his children: Rusty, Rick, Joni, Julie, and Robbie; 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Russ is preceded in death by wife Judy; parents Charles and Beatrice; and a sister Elizabeth Cale. Services for Russ will be at Zeyer Funeral Chapel at 83 North Midland Blvd, Nampa, Idaho at 1PM on Saturday November 30th. There will be a Celebration of Life immediately following the service at Marist Hall (behind Saint Paul's Catholic Church) located at 500 Roosevelt Ave, Nampa, Idaho.
