Obituary

Caroline Marie Phipps Cotner, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away on March 23, 2025 at the age of 92. She was born in Scottland, Illinois, in 1932, to Howard and Leona Phipps, and was raised with a strong sense of family and faith. Caroline's early years were marked by her passion for caring for others. After high school, she pursued her nursing training in Danville, Illinois, and at Northwest Nazarene University (NNU) in Nampa, Idaho. After two years at NNU, she married Paul Cotner, a Korean War veteran from Nampa, Idaho. Together, they embarked on a life of service and military adventure, welcoming their three children, Randy, Rich, and Kathy, into the world. As a young family, Caroline and Paul responded to God's call to ministry, moving to California, Oregon, and Illinois, where they continued to serve others and build a life grounded in faith. During this time, their family grew with the birth of John and Paul Wesley, completing their blessed family. Caroline was a devoted mother who cherished the marriages of her children: Randy to Terry, Rich to Linda, Kathy to Steve, John to Kristie, and Paul W to Lilly. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren, Brittany (and Jose), Gregory (and Rebecca), Riki (and Brodie), Ehren (and Heather), Sawyer (and Emily), Ashley, Colby, Ciera (and Anthony), Dakota, and Shantel (and Austin). Her joy and pride were further deepened by her great-grandchildren: Samantha, Kyrus, Anna, Ehren, Tavian, Jackson, Rosetta, Augustus, Evelyn, Gena, Abraham, and Isabel. Caroline's life was a testament to her love for God, family, and service. She touched the lives of many with her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering faith. She leaves behind a legacy of love, grace, and compassion that will continue to inspire those who knew her. A celebration of Caroline's life will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at the Lakeview Church of the Nazarene, located at 608 14th Ave. N. in Nampa, Idaho, at 11:00 am, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory and the profound impact she had on all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
