Carol Jean Obenauer passed away June 2, 2026 surrounded by her family. She was born August 17, 1944 to Adolph and Leola Andersen in Twin Falls, ID. With her first husband she had 4 beautiful children who were her whole world – Kevin, Shane, Tanya and Julie. On May 23, 1992 she married her silver fox, Gary Obenauer in the Boise, ID temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Together they lovingly blended their family with the addition of Gary's children Sue and Wes.
Carol graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1962 and later in 1984 she received her BS Degree from Idaho State University. She loved to laugh about her degree abbreviation! Upon graduation she started teaching English as a second language at Valley High School in Hazelton, ID. In 1990 she moved to Boise and taught 7th and 8th grade Reading and English at South Junior High in Nampa until she retired. In 1995 Gary and Carol created and ran Shelter Bay Assisted Living until 2003. From May 2003 – November 2004 she served a mission with Gary in Perth Australia.
Carol held many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints but her very favorite was serving in Young Women's. She LOVED going to girl's camp. She was the instigator of many fun shenanigans, especially with her lifelong best friend Elaine Evans. She also served as a temple worker in the Boise, ID temple. She had a fierce love of the gospel and in our Savior Jesus Christ and testified of Him often.
Carol loved to laugh, go camping (as long as it was in her trailer), fishing and spending time with her family. She also loved watching sports especially Jazz Basketball, Atlanta Braves Baseball, Boise State University Football and the San Francisco 49ers. Carol is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gary, siblings Kent and Pat Andersen, Terry Andersen and Jim Nice.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Rosanna Andersen, sister Shana (Marvin) Pierson and sister Claire Nice.
