Carl Funner was born in Rathdrum, Idaho, July 27, 1927.
His family farmed in the Yakima Valley for a few years, then they moved to southeast Alaska, where he spent his teens hiking, hunting, and fishing.

They lived in Alaska for 20 years, Carl working as a general contractor and commercial fisherman. They owned a kiwi farm in central California for another 20 years, then retired to Yakima, WA.
He was happiest when he was with family and friends, fishing, and helping others, sharing freely of his time and resources.
