Obituary

This world lost a truly great man on May 28, 2025, at St. Alphonsus in Boise, Idaho. Brian Lavar Kotter passed away peacefully after a battle with pneumonia. He was born on October 29, 1955, in Brigham City, Utah, to Robert and Mary Jean Kotter.

Brian was a devoted son, brother, uncle, father, and a loyal friend to so many. His warm heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

A talented handyman, Brian could build or fix just about anything. He had a deep love for the outdoors—especially camping—and a lifelong passion for reading. Known for his green thumb, Brian could breathe life into even the most withered plant, and every summer, his porch bloomed with vibrant hanging flowers. His kindness and generosity defined the way he lived: always ready to lend a hand, always putting others first. With his witty remarks and signature smirk, he had a way of lifting spirits and making people laugh.

Brian had a soft spot for anything involving kids, especially within his family. One of the cherished recent memories was the last Halibut Feed, when Uncle Brian hosted a big party at his home and bought many tickets from his great-nieces to support their sports team. It was just one of the many ways he quietly gave of himself.

Brian will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his parents, Robert and Mary Jean Kotter; his sister Marian (Ross) Paskett; his brother Dewayne (Kim) Kotter; sisters Jeanette (Brent) Thompson, WillaMae (Henry) Medel, and Marnae (Richard) Holmes; daughter Candra Clark; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Dale Robert Kotter, and his beloved wife, Lori Hayes Kotter.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 12, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the North Powder Fire Station.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Brian's honor to the City of North Powder (please note "Library" in the memo line) or the North Powder Rural Fire Department.
