Obituary

Betty Ann Good, age 90, passed away June 5, 2026, at her home in Murphy, Idaho.

Betty was born to Frank & Alta Hochstetler on July 8, 1935, at her parents' home near Cairo, Nebraska. She was the youngest of four girls. Her family moved to different farms in Nebraska and Colorado, struggling through the Dust Bowl and depression years. She had good memories of playing with and watching her kittens play on the back steps of their house in those dry years without a drop of rain. They eventually moved to Meridian, Idaho, when Betty was 13 years old.

Betty graduated from Meridian High School in 1952, then went to college to become a teacher. She taught school for 2 years in the one-room schoolhouse in Murphy. You can hear her recorded voice in that same schoolhouse in Murphy that is now part of the Owyhee County Museum.

Betty met a young man from church named Edwin "Ed" Good. They were married in December 1957. They settled on a farm in Kuna. Here they welcomed two sons, Nate (1959) and Jeff (1961). Then they bought a farm near Melba. Ed built their home there, and they have memories of living in a camp trailer while this was being completed. After 10 years or so they moved to the Grand View area and farmed there. In the mid-80s, they moved to Murphy.

Betty accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age. She was a member of the 1st Nampa Mennonite Church. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school. Betty lived her life daily following the footsteps of Jesus. Matthew 5-7, the Sermon on the Mount, meant a lot to her. She had a special soft spot in her heart for refugees or those in need.

In the early 90s, Betty and Ed went to Africa on a three-year mission trip, helping refugees that had been displaced because of conflict and war.

When they returned, they lived quietly in Murphy. Betty had many hobbies that she enjoyed. She loved to paint on canvas. She was a very talented artist with oil paint or watercolors. She was a member of the Nampa Art Guild and won ribbons at the art show. She also loved music. She could play the piano and the accordion, along with some other minor instruments. Gardening was also something Ed and she enjoyed doing together. Canning quarts of grape juice every year from their beautiful grape vine that covered their patio for shade.

Betty was especially good at making friends wherever she went. It was an unusual mail week if she didn't get at least a few cards or letters from friends or relatives from all over the US and Canada. She also enjoyed hosting a monthly Murphy Book Club at her home, which she did just a week or so before her death. Everyone always felt welcome in her home.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her three sisters, Marie Hauder, Elvera Hochstetler & Ardis Wilson; and her husband of 54 years, Edwin Good, who passed in 2011.

Betty is survived by her two sons, Nate (LaVonne) Good of Grand View and Jeff (Vivian) Good of Murphy. She has 7 grandchildren: Jake (Wendy), Chad, Katie (Cody), Tyler (DeeAnna), Micah (Jenn), Crystal (Slade) & Amber.

She has 14 great-grandchildren. We are so blessed to have had a wonderful, godly mother & grandmother.

Burial services will be at the Melba Cemetery on June 18th at 9:00am. A memorial service will be June 18th at 11:00am at Lakeview Bible Church, 1010 Greenhurst Rd, Nampa.
