Ann
Huber
d. Feb 5, 2025
Ann Etta (Ann) Christensen Huber of Meridian, Idaho, passed away peacefully at home on February 5, 2025 at the age of 82. She was born to Therion E and Hilda C. Christensen on May 8, 1942 in Richfield, Utah and she was the first of their five children (Ann, Arlene, Gayle, Jerry, and Jan). Ann was always cheerful, caring, humble, faithful, and hard working. She will be greatly missed by her family. Ann started her life in Annabella, Utah where she had a lively childhood of climbing trees, riding horses, playing with friends, going camping, doing 4-H, and visiting the coal mine in Emery, Utah where her father loaded up his coal truck. On September 3, 1950, Ann was baptized by her father as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She loved participating in the "Homebuilders" program where she learned to cook, sew, and help the needy. Her service to others continued throughout her life and brought her much joy. Ann was a hard worker and as a young teen she thinned beets, picked cherries, and detasseled corn as well as helped with all the household chores. When Ann was in the 4th grade she started piano lessons which began her lifelong love of music - singing alto in the church choir, accompanying her church's children's group and women's groups, and helping her children learn to play the piano and a variety of instruments. At age 82 she could still pick out the alto notes when listening to a hymn. In 1956 her family moved to Idaho. Ann attended and graduated from Meridian High School where she was an excellent student and loved participating in extracurricular activities: school musicals, pep club, drill team, FHA (served as song leader and president), chorus, school newspaper, National Honor Society, Junior Class Treasurer, among other activities. She was also voted Homecoming Queen and "Friendliest" her senior year. After graduation, Ann put her shorthand, typing, and stenographer skills to use as a secretary for Idaho Vocational Rehabilitation Services. Ann started college at BYU and then graduated from Utah State University with her bachelor's degree in Home Economics. During the summer of 1961, while working as a secretary for the Agricultural Research Service, a handsome returned missionary named Leon caught her eye at work. After dating for a couple of years, Ann married Leon Huber in the Logan Utah Temple on February 4, 1963. It was here in Logan that Ann and Leon started their family. So, while Leon was busy working on his PhD, Ann was holding down the fort at home. Five children were born while they lived in Logan and Leon finished his PhD and started working for the university. After outgrowing their little Logan house in 1971, they moved to Hyde Park, Utah where their next three children were born. In 1980, Leon's work took the family to Boise, Idaho. They built their forever home in Meridian and added one last child. Ann was a very talented seamstress and made many beautiful ballet costumes, ballroom dance gowns, and prom dresses for her girls. She loved to listen to the scriptures while she sewed. She was also a wonderful cook. When Ann wasn't busy helping her family she could be found serving and volunteering in the community, her children's schools, and at church where she served as Primary President, Young Women President, and Relief Society President among many other callings. She genuinely cared about people and touched many lives. She shared her contagious smile with everyone she met. One of her greatest desires was to help share the gospel of Jesus Christ and Ann felt very blessed to be able to serve 3 missions with her husband, Leon. From 2005-2007 they served in the Dublin, Ireland Mission office and from 2011-2013 they served in Raleigh, North Carolina. They later served in Boise at the Records Operations Center. Leon and Ann were also Boise Idaho Temple workers on Friday nights for many years. The last few years of her life Ann suffered from Alzheimer's disease. Though sick, she was still such a light to Leon and her family. She passed time with puzzles, photo albums, listening to music, and she especially enjoyed just being with Leon. She often prayed aloud when she was feeling confused or sad. When she asked "who are you?" and a daughter replied, "I'm your daughter," Ann exclaimed, "Oh that is wonderful!" She loved children so much and seeing her great grandchildren play (live or on video) brought her so much joy during her final years. Ann is preceded in death by her parents; her sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and George Peacock; her son, A. Kris Huber; her granddaughter, Jenny Lapreel Huber; and her great granddaughter, Phoenix Fuller. She is survived by her siblings, Gayle (Bob) Farnsworth; Jan (Brent) Hyatt; and Jerry (JoAnn) Christensen; Leon, her beloved eternal companion of 62 years; and eight of their nine children: LeAnn (Lane) Simmons, Amy (George) Mahler, Lauri (Mike) McMullan, Brent (Franki) Huber, Renee (Ben) Jones, Annette (David) Steed, Ryan (Karen) Huber and Heidi (Trent) Bradford; 47 Grandchildren; and 29+ Great Grandchildren. The Huber Family would like to sincerely thank the Visiting Angels organization, the many caregivers who helped Ann with her end-of-life care, and Jerry, her nurse with Idaho Home Health and Hospice who traveled this journey with us.
