Allen
Dixon
d. Dec 18, 2024
Allen Jay Dixon passed away at the age of 71 on December 18, 2024, in Pocatello, Idaho, at the Portneuf Hospital from complications associated with colorectal cancer. Al fought his cancer battle his way, with courage and endurance. Despite many challenges, he remained resilient and found joy in the simple moments.
Al was born on July 8, 1953, to Evan "Bud" and June Dixon in Anchorage, Alaska. They moved to New Meadows, Idaho, in 1961, where Al grew up and graduated from high school in 1971. He has many lifelong friends from the small community. He grew up helping his parents and siblings work in their family-owned restaurant, Pine Knot Cafe.
Al worked as a journeyman lineman. A job that he loved for 16 years. On a job in Nephi, Utah, he met Linda Stephenson. They were married in 1980. They later divorced.
In 1989, Al's dad asked him to move back to New Meadows to manage Zims Hot Springs, their family-owned business. He managed Zims for 30 years, retiring in 2019.
Al met Sherrie Fullmer in 2019, his significant companion, until his passing. Sherrie has been by his side through thick and thin. Al and Sherrie kept their sense of humor through trials and tears as Al battled his illness for the last eight months and Sherrie worked to find his needed medical care.
Al enjoyed many get-togethers, dinners, conversations, and vacations with Sherrie's family: Jake (Jodi), Jared, Kade, and seven grandchildren.
In the last six years, Al and Sherrie resided in Nampa, Idaho. They have enjoyed many vacations. Al loved traveling in the motorhome with their two little dogs, Duke and Aldo. They also stayed busy flipping real estate in Arizona and Nevada.
Al's favorite pastime was reading. He was a history buff and would talk about his passion with individuals that had the same interest. He also enjoyed watching James Bond and owned the entire collection of Bond movies. But his real passion was collecting guns. He enjoyed many hours of target shooting, along with cleaning and maintaining his guns.
Al LOVED his music. All who know him will remember his great selection of music that was always being played at Zims.
Al had many accomplishments in his lifetime. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as an Elders Quorum Counselor and President and taught Seminary for several years. He was a Boy Scout leader while his son Chad was a member of the troop. He taught the boys in his Scout troop to shoot. Al also helped the boys pass their swimming and lifesaving merit badges. He also was an excellent snow skier and taught his children to ski.
Al was an excellent swimmer. When Al was 50 years old, he was asked to swim in a triathlon with two younger athletes. Al swam the Payette Lake while the other men ran and biked. The team took 2nd place.
Al is survived by his children: Monica Morley, Chad (Allisha) Dixon, Danielle (Tyler) Weber, and Jeremy Worwood; his grandchildren: John Wyatt and Layne Dixon, Bodie and Maddie Morley, Rowan Weber, and Zach Woodward. Also survived by his siblings Lee (Sandy) Dixon, Joe Dixon, Doug (Lisa) Dixon, Ivy (Scott) Snow, and Janet (Harvey) Taylor.
Al is preceded in death by his parents, Bud and June Dixon, and a son-in-law, James Morley.
Graveside services will be held May 10, 2025, at 1:00 pm at the Meadows Valley Cemetery in New Meadows, Idaho. Arrangements by Zeyer Funeral Chapel, Nampa, Idaho.
