Obituary

Alice Hazel Martin, 97, died at home peacefully August 7, 2022. Alice has been a resident of Nampa, Idaho for 42 years. Alice was born September 23, 1924, the eldest child of Manley and Hazel Hudspeth in Copita, Texas. When Alice was seven years old, during the depression, on August 6, 1932, the family, which now included three sisters, Joy, June and Shirley headed to California working along the way and living in a tent a good part of the time. It was in Napa, California where they found work and a new life where Alice spent the early years of her life graduating from Napa High School in 1942. Here too is where she met the love of her life, Leslie (Les) Martin. On May 24, 1946, Alice and Les married and went on to have four children, Smokey, Leslie, Susan and Shirley. In July of 1967 Alice, Les, Susan and Shirley bought and moved to a small farm in Melba, Idaho. Alice was a long-time member of the Melba Friends Church. Alice was proud of her distinction of being the eldest parishioner which she held for several years. Alice acted as a Sunday School teacher, served on various committees and until her death hosted weekly Bible studies in her home. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Manley and Hazel Hudspeth; her husband, Les Martin; daughter Leslie Martin; and sisters Joy, June and Shirley. Alice is survived by son, Smokey Martin (Scottie) of Coos Bay, Oregon, Susan McKibben (Bruce) of Nampa, Idaho, Shirley Martin (Bill) of Olympia, Washington; eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Alice is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Alice was greatly loved by all. Graveside service for Alice will be held Friday, August 12 at 10:30am at Melba Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that any donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Melba Friends Church.
