Obituary for Margaret Irene Patten

Margaret Irene Patten passed away early on the morning of November 6, 2019, at the age of 96. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 9, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel, 112 Randolph, in Melba, Idaho with a viewing at the Church from 9:30 to 10:45 AM prior to the services. Burial will be at the Melba Cemetery following the services. Arrangements by Zeyer Funeral Chapel, Nampa. 208-467-7300
Margaret was born on December 20, 1922 in Pocatello, Idaho to Ralph and Irene Snyder Whiting. She went to a one room school house in Crystal Creek, Idaho until her family moved to Salmon, Idaho, where she graduated high school. She loved being outdoors working with her Dad on the ranch, and was an excellent horsewoman. In fact, she could and did drive a team of 16 horses.
Margaret married Grant Kidd Patten on January 11, 1944 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They raised their family of six children in Missoula, Montana until 1969, when they moved to the Treasure Valley in Idaho. They purchased a 40-acre farm near Kuna, where they enjoyed raising cows, chickens, and a large, bountiful garden, as well as fruit trees. Margaret loved gardening and especially enjoyed her roses and gladiolus.
Margaret was a faithful and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all her life. She especially enjoyed being a visiting teacher. She and her husband, Grant, served two missions; one in Canada and one in Indiana.
Margaret is survived by her children: Lynn and Mike Aderhold, Rhonda and Scott Grow, Courtney and Ralene Patten, David and Gale Patten, Rebecca and Keith Detro, and Ralph and Mary Patten. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. One granddaughter preceded her in death. She is also survived by two sisters and numerous nephews and nieces. One granddaughter preceded her in death. Condolences may be expressed at Zeyer FuneralChapel.com.
