Herman Pope of Nampa, Idaho went to be home with his Heavenly Father, December 28, 2021. He was born March 6, 1935 to Milton and Gladys Hampton Pope of Saltillo, Mississippi. He began preaching at the age of 15 and graduated from Baldwyn High School in 1954. He also attended Atlanta Christian College and Florida State University. On March 6, 1954, Herman married the love of his life, Shirley Ann King of Blue Springs, MS. To this union three children were born, Thomas Allen, Stanley Lamar, and Sherry Michele. Herman was known for his love of people and his passion for preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Wherever he went, Herman was loved for his infectious smile and his loving and kind spirit. He served as a Minister and held gospel meetings in MS, KY, GA, MI, OK, TX, AR, WY, ID, WA, TN, MO, and CA. For more than half a century, Herman taught and preached throughout the state of Idaho. In 1963, he and his family started the church in Gooding, Idaho. And again in 1970, Herman and his family were instrumental in establishing the Church of Christ at Third and King in Meridian, Idaho which later became the Linder Road Church of Christ. In the late 1970's, he lead the way in starting the church in St. Anthony, Idaho. For over two decades he supported Camp Palisades in eastern Idaho near Idaho Falls. One of the greatest loves of his ministry was Camp Ivydale near Idaho City. For more than 40 years he served the camp as a director, a board member, and he was very involved with the upkeep and improvements made to the camp over the years. Herman loved working with young people and children and he leaves a legacy of unconditional love and changed lives. Herman loved the great outdoors and especially the mountains of Idaho. For decades he took the family exploring and camping. He was especially delighted as the extended family of Popes, Kings, Crowley's and many family friends came together and camped out in the mountains during the summertime. An expert woodsman, Herman was famous for cutting firewood for his family as well as for many other families. He loved to hunt, fish and just be with the people he loved in the beautiful state that became his home. Herman is preceded in death by one grandchild, Shana Nicole Pope; his brother Stephen Pope; his sister Mary Ann Pope Wren; his foster son E.L. King and E.L.'s wife Martha Morton King. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley Ann Pope of Nampa; his sister Martha Pope Moore of Baldwyn, Mississippi; his three children: Allen Pope (Dallas, Texas), Stanley Pope (Nampa, Idaho), and Sherry (Ralph) Geer (Gooding, Idaho); his foster daughter Diane King (Bill) Crowley (Meridian, Idaho); Daughters-in-law Monica and Joy; his grandchildren: David, Jeremy, Joshua, Joseph Pope, Jacob Pope, Laura Pope Johnson, Landon Scheer, Brea Duffy, Elisha Horrocks, Teresa, Tim and Tom Crowley, Todd, Scott, Karla, Cheyenne and Monica King; 29 great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. A Celebration of Herman Pope's Life will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, March 10,2022 at the Linder Road Church of Christ, 1555 N. Linder Road in Meridian, Idaho.
