Obituary for Camellia Sue Krack

Camellia Sue (Hinds) Krack passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter on October 4, 2020, surrounded by her husband, Don and her children Donna Llewellyn and Virginia McBride, and granddaughter Sandy Clayton.
Born on August 5, 1930 in Yakima, WA to parents John Hinds and Ada Corrine Spradlin Hinds, she and her identical twin Carol, were a surprise to their parents. Her parents had only selected one name should they have a daughter, Camellia, because their mother loved that flower. When they got over their surprise at having two daughters at once they chose the name Carol because as mother put it..They would be named after “a flower and a song”.
In 1939, the family moved from Yakima, WA to Coeur d’alene, ID. The family moved again, this time to Omak, WA where Cam and Carol attended 6th thru 12th grades, graduating from Omak High School in 1948.
After High School, Cam and her sister attended Puget Sound College in Tacoma, WA for two years. At that time the family moved to Sunnyvale, CA. Cam and Carol finished up their college degrees at San Jose State College, graduating in 1952 with degrees in Psychology and Social Service.
In 1954, Cam was living in Palo Alto, CA and worked as an aide in the Pediatric Dept. in a medical clinic. From there she became involved in a pilot program, assisting a Special Ed teacher in a pre-school program for mentally and physically disabled children ages 4-6, who had no previous social contact outside of their own families. This began her lifelong love of working with and teaching, and learning from these “special” people. She continued to work while returning to college once again, this time at San Francisco State and then Los Angeles State College to get a degree in Special Education. She got a job teaching a class of 12 students ages six and seven in an integrated elementary school in East Los Angeles.
Cam found lodging at a boarding house in Glendale, CA. Several weeks later she met one of the other residents who would later become her husband. They were married March 24, 1956. Two daughters blessed their lives, Donna, and then Virginia. They settled in Sun Valley, CA.
Cam was a devoted wife and mother. She served as her girls’ Blue Bird and Camp Fire Girls leaders, as well as school room mother.
In 1968, she went back to teaching special education, this time for adults. She worked at that job until she retired in 1991. Cam spent her retirement years living in Kuna, ID.
In 1971, the family joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Cam is survived by her husband Donald Krack; her daughters Donna (David) Llewellyn of Stevenson Ranch, CA and Virginia (Gllen) McBride of Kuna, ID; nine grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members.
It was said of this special woman.. “Cam loved life!”
